Stirling Mortlock has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash at the ABSA Stadium, leaving the Brumbies without one of they more potent attacking options going into a must-win match against the second-placed Sharks.
The Wallaby skipper has failed to recover adequately from a pair of dead legs picked up against the Lions last weekend and cried off during the captain’s practice. Tyrone Smith will move one place out to wear Mortlock’s 13 jersey, with Brumbies veteran Gene Fairbanks to start at inside centre. Fairbanks himself has only recently recovered from injury.
Mortlock is one of the few remaining members of the “Brumbies of old” and adds a huge amount to the team, both on attack and defence whenever he plays. The Sharks will view the disrupted midfield as a potential area of weakness for the Brumbies and will aim to capitalise on this as they aim to down the Canberra side for the first time since 2005.
A mouthwatering clash awaits.Tweet
