Sharks scrumhalf Rory Kockott has joined Morne Steyn as the leading Super 14 point-scorers at the halfway mark of the tournament.
Rugby 365 reports that Steyn, who previously stood alone at the top of the point-scoring standings, is joined by Kockott on 74 points with Chiefs pivot Stephen Donald trailing on 64 points.
The Sharks’ win against the Brumbies also took them to the top of the Super 14 standings on 26 points while the Bulls’ loss to the Highlanders sees them dropping into fourth place. However, the Bulls have only lost one game and they still have a game in hand.
Siteveni Sivivatu and JP Pietersen heads the try-scoring stakes with six tries each. Pietersen’s accumulation of five-pointers has been steady while Sivivatu racked up his six tries in the last two games.
The All Blacks speedster scored four tries against the Blues in Week Six and he grabbed another brace against the Reds at the weekend.
Leading point-scorers:
74 – Morné Steyn (Bulls)
74 – Rory Kockott (Sharks)
64 – Stephen Donald (Chiefs)
59 – Jimmy Gopperth (Blues)
52 – Mark Gerrard (Brumbies)
Leading try-scorers:
6 – Siteveni Sivivatu (Chiefs)
6 – JP Pietersen (Sharks)
4 – Anthony Tuitavake (Blues)
4 – Isaia Toeava (Blues)
4 – Pierre Spies (Bulls)

Not bad for a scrummy to be joined top with a flyhalf…
Steyn has
Scored 1 try
Slotted 26 kicks
Missed 18 kicks
that gives him a 59% success rate
Kockott has
Scored 2 tries
Slotted 26 kicks
Missed 9 kicks
that gives him a 74% success rate
Eish guys. Thought Rory joins Frans STEYN in France
@JustPlainSHARK (Comment 3) : i thought the same but well done Rory you make me proud
And this is just one year ago…
Seems a long time doesn’t it…
@Morné (Comment 5) : True, I got worried and thought he was headed to Racing.
hahahaha i thought i was caught up in a warp zone!! Now they’re bout to catch another L and improve on the franchise record of 0 from 6 games…
@Morné (Comment 5) : i know you were never a big fan of what you refer to as deck rugby, now with the strict policing of the laws governing the breakdown do you see a return to how you preferred the loosies (especiallu the opensiders) to approach the game?
@Megatron (Comment 8) :
Oh absolutely.
Just the fact that Brussow was used primarily as a ball carrier with the Cheetahs up and till his injury is testament to this.
Schalk is having a super season, and how many times do you hear the word ‘fetcher’ on a weekend these days?
Just for the record, I am not against deck-rugby, I just think Saffa’s aren’t very good at it.
History has a way of repeating itself, maybe not this year though
@JarsonX (Comment 10) :
FLIP last night when I read the 1st few lines of the article i thought “HTF did that happen?” and then I saw the date on the article.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 11) :
When I saw the headline this morning I thought he was leaving the Sharks!!
Nah, i knew sumthing was up when i read the Sharks winning the brumbies. Charmaine went into the time machine here and got completely lost on the calender
Hope you came Back to the Future safely.
Jeez… when I read the heading I thought it is just another player the Sharks lost. And then for a second it had me doubt my maths skills and memory.
@wpw (Comment 12) : That was my same first reaction as well.
