Brumbies captain Stephen Hoiles has been named in an extended 23-man squad for his side’s Super 14 clash with the Bulls in Canberra on Friday.
Hoiles has been given until the end of the week to prove his fitness after suffering a medial ligament tear in his left knee during the Brumbies’ 21-11 win over the Waratahs four weeks ago.
The AAP reports that the backrower was sidelined for the side’s three-week tour of South Africa and last weekend’s 17-10 win over the Stormers but resumed training this week.
Brumbies coach Andy Friend said Hoiles’ return would present a welcome dilemma in terms of a potential reshuffle to the backrow.
“It’s a nice dilemma to have,” he said.
“We’d love to have Steve back in the side, he’s a natural leader and provides excellent guidance for the side on the park.
“We’ll look to make a decision on Steve later in the week but feel very confident with whichever combination we decide on.”
