Stormers fullback Conrad Jantjes added to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers’ injury woes, ahead of the British and Irish Lions tour, when he fractured his leg in the Stormers’ 14-28 Super 14 loss to the Chiefs at Newlands on Saturday.
Jantjes suffered the fracture 10 minutes into his team’s encounter with the Kiwi outfit, to join an ever growing Bok injury list that also include flank Schalk Burger (ankle injury against the Chiefs), centre Adi Jacobs (shoulder) and centre Jean de Villiers (groin).
It was confirmed that Jantjes suffered a leg fracture in a nasty clash with an opponent and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
Rugby 365 reports that this will almost certainly rule him out of the Test series against the Lions – opening the door for one of several quality players – like Zane Kirchner, Stefan Terblanche or Louis Ludik – to step into the Bok No.15 jersey.
The extent of Burger’s calf injury will only be known after scans on Monday.
There is hope that De Villiers and Jacobs will recover in time for the first Test against the Lions on June 20.

hmmm. Bok backline suddenly looking a bit thin. Olivier and Fourie at centre will do well. What about fullback? Must be Stef, surely?
Hey, after yesterday’s dog’s breakfast, would you guys still pick Bismark?
would you guys still pick Bismark?
But isn’t he the best hooker in SA who is invaluable given the work he does as a loosie too?
@Morné (Comment 2) : not much good to anyone if he can’t retain the ball
@robdylan (Comment 1) :
Well we will have to.
CJ has all but ruled himslef out of recovering in time for the Lions series.
The author of the piece Hendrik Cronje, could get it said enough times during the piece that CJ was the # 1 choice.
@Morné (Comment 2) :
Gloater!
Sheesh, but he was hondkak yesterday!
Kischner had a very good game yesterday… I hope he gets selected along with TT’s favourite fullback…
