Heini Adams is going to wear the Vodacom Bulls’ number 9 jersey against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday following Fourie du Preez’s calf injury.

The Bulls’ official website reports that Adams has been Du Preez’s adjutant in all of the Bulls’ matches in 2009 and he has proven in the past to be a worthy replacement for our Springbok scrumhalf.

With Adams in the Bulls’ starting line-up Francois Hougaard comes in on the bench which means that JP Joubert is going to be the Vodacom Blue Bulls’ scrumhalf in the Vodacom Cup final that is going to be contested at Loftus against the Griquas.

The Bulls also welcomes back big Bakkies Botha following his three week suspension after an incident on tour in the match against the Waratahs in Sydney.

Coach Frans Ludeke said at the weekly press conference at Loftus on Wednesday that Adams is eager to show his worth and he backs him a 100 percent to do the job on Saturday.

“Losing Fourie is obviously a setback to us but we would like to see it in a positive light. He has been playing in all of our matches and this break possibly comes at just the right time.

“This is an opportunity for Heini to get game time and we are in a very fortunate position to have three top scrumhalves in the system. I have a lot of trust in Heini’s abilities and we are all looking forward to the game.”

Ludeke added that the Bulls would like to build on what they have achieved thus far and they are all fully aware of the threat posed by the Cheetahs.

“We’ve seen against the Sharks and the Crusaders what they can do and I said from the beginning of the season that they have a very good team. They have lots of quality players and as a team they are very dangerous from broken play.

“Their set pieces are first-class, they are well coached and we all know how hard and tough derby matches are. Saturday is going to be no exception and we will continue to focus on our own game and strive to perfect what we are doing.”

Vodacom Bulls: 15 Zane Kirchner; 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Jaco Pretorius, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bryan Habana; 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Heini Adams; 8 Pierre Spies, 7 Dewald Potgieter, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Victor Matfield (captain), 4 Bakkies Botha, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Derick Kuün, 1 Gurthrö Steenkamp. Substitutes: 16 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 17 Rayno Gerber, 18 Danie Rossouw, 19 Pedrie Wannenburg, 20 Francois Hougaard, 21 Burton Francis, 22 JP Nel

  • Even without DuPreez (who happens to be in FL team  ) The Bulls are still going to give the Cheetahs 50 plus.

Sharks need a BP this weekend to ensure we can get second spot without having to worry about keeping the Bulls BPless next week.

  • I actually rate this oke. Wouldnt mind if he was in the Bok squad… He would really push Rory for the starting berth if he was contracted at the Sharks. The same can be said of Ricki Januarie…
