Cobus Grobbelaar, who was injured on the Lions tour of Australasia, has been selected for Friday’s Super 14 match against the Highlanders and could be one of the two changes to the side which lost to Crusaders last weekend.

Grobbelaar has been bracketed with Johan van Deventer at No 6. Van Deventer had a storming game on his debut last weekend and would relish another chance at this level.

On the other flank, Ernst Joubert gets a break and is replaced by Robert Kruger in the only certain change to last week’s side.

If Grobbelaar plays, he will captain the side. Jaque Fourie will take over the captaincy if Grobbelaar is not cleared to play.

The team:
Earl Rose, Louis Ludik, Jaque Fourie, Doppies La Grange, Deon van Rensburg, Andre Pretorius, Jano Vermaak, Willem Alberts, Robert Kruger, Cobus Grobbelaar / Johan van Deventer, Anton van Zyl, Jannes Labuschagne, Lawrence Sephaka, Willie Wepener, JC Janse van Rensburg.
Replacements: Hans van Dyk, Gert Muller, Franco van der Merwe, Todd Clever, Chris Jonck, Walter Venter, Michael Killian.

  • A sense of Deja Vu for me here.

Last week I picked the Crusaders and then had second thoughts. Fortunately I couldn’t change the SB pick and the Crusaders won.

This week I have the same feeling. I have picked the wrong team.

half of the Last Man Standing guys have picked the Lions to win.

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Here’s hoping there is. Suprising that no one chose the giant slaying cheetahs? If those were my 2 options I would have been tempted to choose them.

5 have chosen them and Predators will probably be using his default which means he will be choosing the Bulls. so it will stay at 5. (50% )

  • Mentz is still injured. It was also confirmed yesterday that Cobus is out and that Van Deventer will be at 6 again for this match
