This weekend sees the Chiefs return from South Africa to face the Hurricanes in Hamilton in what can only be described as “The fight to finish first”.

This is likely to be the game most closely monitored by South African fans this weekend. The loser will almost certainly end behind The Sharks and the Bulls, barring any giant killers getting in on the action, of course.

The winner will walk away knowing that they have all but sown up a home semi and probably a home final by almost assuring that they will finish first on the log.

Venue: Hamilton – New Zealand
Kick-off: 19:35 Local time, 09:35 SA Time

Referee: Bryce Lawrence (New Zealand)
ARs: Vinny Munro (New Zealand), Glenn Newman (New Zealand)
TMO: Shane McDermott (New Zealand)

Chiefs:
15 Mils Muliaina (captain), 14 Lelia Masaga, 13 Richard Kahui, 12 Callum Bruce, 11 Sitiveni Sivivatu, 10 Stephen Donald, 9 Toby Morland, 8 Sione Lauaki, 7 Tanerau Latimer, 6 Liam Messam, 5 Kevin O’Neill, 4 Craig Clarke, 3 Ben May, 2 Aled de Malmanche, 1 Sona Taumalolo.
Replacements:
16 Hika Elliot, 17 James McGougan, 18 Toby Lynn, 19 Serge Lilo, 20 David Bason, 21 Mike Delany, 22 Sosene Anesi.

Hurricanes:
15 Cory Jane, 14 Tamati Ellison/Zac Guildford, 13 Conrad Smith, 12 Ma’a Nonu, 11 David Smith, 10 Willie Ripia, 9 Piri Weepu, 8 Rodney So’oialo (captain), 7 Scott Waldrom, 6 Victor Vito, 5 Jason Eaton, 4 Jeremy Thrush, 3 Neemia Tialata, 2 Andrew Hore, 1 John Schwalger.
Replacements:
16 Ged Robinson, 17 Jacob Ellison, 18 Bryn Evans, 19 Faifili Levave, 20 Alby Mathewson, 21 Jason Kawau, 22 Zac Guildford/Robert Fruean.

  • This must be one of the most even split matches on Superbru in a long time.

    Picks for Chiefs 18676 (48.29%)
    Picks for Hurricanes 19681 (50.89%)
    Picks for draw 316 (0.82%)

I picked the Hurricanes by 9 so it seems i will be shouting for them.

  • 1st scrum and the chiefs push before the scrumhalf is there and give away a FK.

    Canes opt for another scrum.

  • so if chiefs win without bp today and next week they’ll end on 45, and wala points difference comes into play if the sharks should happen to win both games with bp

  • We must not forget that this has been an intense match. Hopefully, these two teams will be drained for next week. Brumbies or Reds could spring a surprise after a game like this.

  • Chiefs go top of the log
    Hurricanes go 2nd

Bulls could end the weekend at the top of the log if they get a BP win.

Sharks NEED a BP win if they want to be 3rd

Good result for SA not so good for the Sharks.

We HAVE to get a BP if we want to be 3rd going into the final round.

If we Don’t get a BP we will see the log like this after the weekend

    Bulls 42
    Chiefs 41
    Canes 39
    Sharks 39

Will give us a must win with a BP scenario for next week if we want to have a home semi.
