Lions Springbok Earl Rose, who had a shocker in the Super 14 win over the Highlanders last weekend, has been relegated to the bench for the match against the Waratahs in Johannesburg on Friday night.

SAPA reports that Rose started at fullback last week but was moved to the wing within the first quarter.

He is replaced in the backline by Dusty Noble who will start at wing while Louis Ludik moves to fullback where he took over from Rose last Friday.

JC Janse van Rensburg is replaced at loosehead by Gert Muller and moves to the bench, and Ernst Joubert comes in on the bench in place of Franco van der Merwe who starts in place of lock Jannes Labuschagne.

Due to Cobus Grobbelaar and Jaque Fourie still ruled out due to injury, Andre Pretorius will again captain the side

Lions Team:
Louis Ludik, Dusty Noble, Deon van Rensburg, Doppies La Grange, Michael Killian, Andre Pretorius (capt,), Jano Vermaak, Willem Alberts, Robert Kruger, Johan van Deventer, Anton van Zyl, Franco van der Merwe, Lawrence Sephaka, Willie Wepener, Gert Muller.
Replacements: Hans van Dyk, JC Janse van Rensburg. Ernst Joubert, Todd Clever, Chris Jonck, Walter Venter, Earl Rose.

  • I presume that Killian’s name as a replacement was an editorial mistake, cos he is in the starting 15.

  • @wpw (Comment 3) :

Rose has started off the bench for most of the season, if I’m not wrong, so it doesn’t really say much that he is on the bench

  • He did score the final try (ran and fell over the line)….and no he did not make Vermaaks…he did about as much as Vermaak did to make that try….it all happened before either of them….

He did however directly concede points…

He is like a Monty of old (the one that played centre)…he is only a lil worse…leaks dumber points….

I think Monty should be rose’s mental coach…guide him to how he changed from a loose cannon that leaked more than he made (especially when the game is tight) to a legend…could only do Rose good…

  • @Hmmm (Comment 9) : I think that is a brilliant idea, provided he moves to Capetown and out of the Lions team for good, as I think he is [email protected]
