Three down and still alive

That’s it guys – the Chiefs beat the Brumbies, which is the result we wanted from a Sharks perspective.

Well, the Lions did let the Tahs get a bonus point, which means we do also now… at least the Lions, with their late comeback, restricted the Tahs points difference, so it doesn’t matter by how much we win tomorrow, so long as we score four tries.

Because the Blues restricted the Crusaders to a two-point, no bonus point win, they end up on 41 points as well, but with an inferior points difference to the Sharks. Since we already have to win with a bonus anyway to overtake the Tahs, in so doing we’ll overtake the Canterbury mob as well.

In short, we’re still alive. If we score any sort of bonus point win against the Bulls, we can finish no lower than fourth. If the Canes manage no points at all against the Reds, though, we could sneak third – meaning a trip to Loftus for the semi.

GO SHARKS!

  • >>the key thing is for the Tahs NOT to get a bonus point win.

That might happen as the Tahs are scoring less than 2 tries per match, but tonight they know they need 4..so they will obviously go all out for it…like the Bergbokke last year.

  • Best result for the Sharks/Bulls game is 4/5 to Bulls and 2 to Sharks…

Then we could possibly have 2 in semi’s…

If the Saders and Tahs lose their games

Actually…the way we have played the last few weeks, I’m sadly beginning to think that is the case.

If we can’t beat Tahs and Crusaders at home, not much chance of going away to Chiefs or Canes and winning.

Having said that, there is not much between Sharks and Bulls. We have a much better front row, they have better locks, loosies are fairly even. and then backline is fairly even. They are however showing much better current form than our boys!

  • Frans Steyn is making a quicker than expected recovery from a knee injury and is likely to be fit to face the British & Irish Lions.
Steyn injured knee ligaments playing for the Sharks against the Highlanders a fortnight ago and was expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks, effectively ruling him out of the three-Test tour.

However, his agent Gerrie Swart confirmed to keo.co.za that he will start running on Monday, well ahead of schedule.

‘His injury is recovering quicker than expected which means he should be ready and fighting fit for the Lions, should he be selected,’ Swart told this website.

The news will be a welcome respite for the Springbok selectors who have watched as a number of Springboks have been injured in recent weeks.

Steyn, if fit, is a starting option at fullback, given that Conrad Jantjes has broken his leg and will miss the remainder of the year. Steyn’s versatility means he will also cover flyhalf and centre, where Springbok coach Peter de Villiers believes he is best suited.

Meanwhile, Swart is adamant that Steyn hasn’t made a final decision on his future, despite reports in the French media that he has signed for Paris-based club Racing Metro.

‘The transfer window in France opens today [Friday] but Frans has until the end of June to put pen to paper, so there’s no rush on his part,’ he said.

‘We are still in talks with the Sharks about [the possibility of him staying] next year.’
