Baby Boks change three

Eric Sauls has had to reshuffle his personnel somewhat ahead of today’s must-win IRB Junior WC semi-final against England.

Regular fullback Sias Ebersohn has been suspended for a dangerous tackle, meaning the Bulls’ Francois Brümmer has to take over in the number 15 jersey. Captain Rob Ebersohn, himself fortunate to escape a ban along with his brother, will take over from Brümmer at inside centre. Province’s Nicolaas Hanekom comes into the vacant outside centre position.

Among the forwards, former Pretoria Boys flanker Tendayi Chikukwa has cried off injured, meaning an elevation to the starting fifteen for Marnus Schoeman. Anticipating a bruising clash against the big English pack, Sauls has picked five forwards on the bench.

Baby Boks team:

15 Francois Brümmer; 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 Nicolaas Hanekom, 12 Robert Ebersohn (captain), 11 Sampie Mastriet; 10 Lionel Cronjé, 9 Ross Cronjé; 8 Christiaan Stander, 7 Rynhardt Elstadt, 6 Marnus Schoeman, 5 David Bulbring, 4 Jan-André Marais, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 2 Kyle Cooper, 1 Morné Mellet.
Reserves: 16 Zane Botha, 17 Julian Redelinghuys, 18 Caylib Oosthuizen, 19 Kenechukwu Ofakor, 20 Yaasir Hartzenberg, 21 Rudy Paige, 22 Johan Sadie.

  • Apart from not knowing the laws of the game, how to tackle, play the ball at the ruck, kick for position or commit to the tackle area, the Baby Boks were good. But when you fail at 85% of the ball game, you’re never going to win.

It looked like they didn’t want to be there, no commitment which was the biggest disappointment.

Was impressed with Kyle Cooper at hooker – scrums were awesome – 2 heel against the heads, and should have been 3 except crap ref blew us out of the game.
