Springbok tourist Earl Rose will get his long-awaited break when he runs out at flyhalf for the Emerging Springboks against the British and Irish Lions in Cape Town on Tuesday.

Jan de Koning reports for rugby365:

The team of non-capped players, in most cases regarded as the future of South African rugby, has a powerful looking pack of forwards and some exciting backs.

However, it is in the backline where players like Rose, Jano Vermaak, Morgan Newman, Bjorn Basson, Luzuko Vulindlu and Zane Kirchner will get the chance to show their true worth.

More to follow…

Emerging Springboks: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Luzuko Vulindlu, 13 Deon van Rensburg, 12 Morgan Newman, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Earl Rose, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Dewald Potgieter (captain), 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Wian du Preez.
Replacements: 16 Tiaan Liebenberg, 17 Patric Cilliers, 18 Franco van eder Merwe, 19 Jacques Botes, 20 Heini Adams, 21 Willem de Waal, 22 Danwel Demas.

Date: Tuesday, June 23

  • Fantastic forward pack….not to sure about the centre pairing though..never seen them play much.

Great loose trio IMO …Dewaldt Potgieter, Deysel and Vermuelen is going to haunt them in the loose.

  • @klempie (Comment 6) : I prefer Jano ahead of Rocket….unless you need him as kicker….rocket tries too much on his own imo

  • @Pokkel (Comment 9) : @wpw (Comment 10) : Rocket needs some higher level competition to temper his enthusiasm. Then he will be dynamite.

  • I am confused, what are the Emerging Boks? Are they like the “B” team?

One feature of them is if someone has played for the Springboks they are not eligible for the emerging bok team
