Sharks lock Johann Muller was on Monday called up to the Springbok squad to replace Andries Bekker, who tore cartilage in his knee during Saturday’s second Test against the British & Irish Lions at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
Press release courtesy SA Rugby.
Bekker saw orthopaedic specialist Mark Ferguson and will have a scope performed on his knee on Monday evening.
Muller, who last played for the Boks in 2007, was part of the South African Training Squad that faced a Namibian invitation XV in Windhoek last month, ahead of the Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series.
Meanwhile there was positive feedback on the other players who picked up injuries during the Series-clinching 28-25 win at the weekend.
Team doctor Craig Roberts confirmed that centre Jean de Villiers and scrumhalf Fourie du Preez saw shoulder specialist Thys de Beer in Pretoria on Monday and had been cleared for selection ahead of the third Test in Johannesburg this Saturday.
Danie Rossouw is being closely monitored and will follow the standard concussion protocol, including neuropsychological assessment, before returning to play.

Will Muller start?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 2) : my call is yes, definitely. But they’re appealing the bakkies suspension
@robdylan (Comment 3) :
Why Bother? He went for the guys arm in a similar way in which someone goes for the knee in a karate match KNOWING it WILL do damage.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 4) : ah yes – I remember that scene from Karate Kid…
