Here you go fans. All the week four Currie Cup team announcements in one place.

The Bulls have been forced to make a change at blindside flank, with Gerrit-Jan van Velze coming in for the injured Dewald Potgieter. Returning from injury this week are Pedrie Wannenberg, Deon Stegmann and Burton Francis, all of whom will play off the wood. There’s been a bit of a cull on the bench with Jaco Engels, Fudge Mabeta and Francois Hougaardt all getting the chop. Young Stephan Dippenaar has been elevated from the under 21s, while Ruan Snyman will cover for Heini Adams at scrumhalf.

Blue Bulls: 15 Tiger Mangweni; 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 Jaco Pretorius, 12 Stefan Watermeyer, 11 Marius Delport; 10 Francois Brummer, 9 Heini Adams; 8 Dries van Schalkwyk, 7 Gerrit-Jan van Velze, 6 Jacques Burger, 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Derick Kuün (capt), 1 Gurthrö Steenkamp. Reserves: 16 Bandise Maku, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Pedrie Wannenburg, 19 Deon Stegmann, 20 Ruan Snyman, 21 Burton Francis, 22 Stephan Dippenaar.

The Lions have Griquas at home, which should be one of the games of the round. All the big names that were rested last week are now back, with Baywatch Grobbellar leading the side and Herkie Kruger back at flyhalf. Earl Rose shifts to fullback, Alwyn Hollenbach to outside centre and Johan Jackson comes in at left wing for Henno Mentz. Janno Vermaak has pulled out and been replaced by Chris Jonck in the starting XV. In another late change, Walter Venter has withdrawn and will be replaced by Rouan Cloete.

Lions: 15 Earl Rose; 14 Dusty Noble. 13 Alwyn Hollenbach, 12 Rouan Cloete, 11 Johan Jackson; 10 Herkie Kruger, 9 Chris Jonck; 8 Willem Alberts, 7 Franco van der Merwe, 6 Baywatch Grobbelaar (capt), 5 Willem Stoltz, 4 Nico Luus, 3 Gert Muller, 2 Hans van Dyk, 1 JC van Rensburg. Reserves: 16 Derek Harwood, 17 Kevin Buys, 18 Johan Snyman, 19 Derek Minnie, 20 Straatkat van Zyl, 21 Ruan Boshoff, 22 Henno Mentz.

The Cheetahs have once again brought in Jongi Nokwe for Lionel Mapoe at left wing. Promising openside flank Johan Wessels is injured and has been replaced by former Griqua Frans Viljoen. Lock Izak van der Westhuizen comes onto the bench.

Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Danwel Demas, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Corné Uys, 11 Jongi Nokwe, 10 Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 9 Tertius Carse, 8 Francois Uys, 7 Hendro Scholtz (capt), 6 Frans Viljoen, 5 David de Villiers, 4 Nico Breedt, 3 WP Nel, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Wian du Preez. Reserves: 16 Richardt Strauss, 17 Coenie Oosthuizen, 18 Izak van der Westhuizen, 19 Kabamba Floors, 20 JP Joubert, 21 Louis Strydom, 22 JW Jonker.

Former Free State Vodacom Cup centre Berndt Theissinger (whose brother Adriaan is at the Sharks Academy) will start in the Leopards number 12 jersey this week. The previous holder, Japie Nel, was red-carded for a spot of ball-groping against the Lions and has been dropped from the squad, as he’s odd-on to receive a lengthy ban. Former Sharks Vodacom Cup winger Danie Dames drops out of the squad this week, while Thabo Mamojele, on loan to the Leopards from the Sharks, will look to get some much-needed gametime off the bench.

Leopards: 15 Jean Tiedt; 14 Jovan Bowles, 13 Deon van Rensburg, 12 Berndt Theissinger, 11 Jan van Zyl; 10 Clayton Durand, 9 Michael Bondesio; 8 RW Kember, 7 Wilhelm Koch (capt), 6 Bennie Adams, 5 Anthonie Gronum, 4 Ligtoring Landman, 3 Philip Lemmer, 2 Gavin Williamson, 1 Nardus Lombard. Reserves: 16 Pellow van der Westhuizen, 17 Os van der Walt, 18 Rudi Mathee, 19 Thabo Mamojele, 20 Theo van Wyk, 21 Basil de Doncker, 22 Bom Samaai.

Boland coach Deon Davids has made 8 changes to his team, with regular captain Conrad Burke back in the number 2 jersey. Both Mark Harris and Justin Peach are injured, handing Llewellyn Adonis a Currie Cup début at fullback.

Boland Cavaliers: 15 Llewellyn Adonis, 14 Deon Scholtz, 13 Hein Myburgh, 12 Dewey Swartbooi, 11 Cornal Hendricks, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Marnus Hugo, 8 Junior Bester, 7 David Hendricks, 6 Zolani Mofu, 5 Rito Hlungwane, 4 Nico Esterhuyse, 3 Kobie Adriaanse, 2 Conrad Burke (captain), 1 Jané du Toit.
Replacements: 16 Clemen Lewis, 17 Johan Roets, 18 Frikkie Spies, 19 Wendal Wehr, 20 Danie van der Merwe, 21 Lionel Cornelius, 22 Ernie Kruger.

Griquas have kept changes to a minimum for their tough away assignment against the Lions and why wouldn’t they, having stuffed Boland by 73 points last weekend? Centre Wilmaure Louw is injured, meaning a start for Jaco Bekker at centre. In the only other change to the 22, Heinrich Stride replaces former Shark Nolan Clark on the bench.

Griquas: 15 Riaan Viljoen, 14 Dewald Pretorius, 13 Jaco Bekker, 12 Barry Geel, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Naas Olivier, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Jonathan Mokuena (captain), 7 Davon Raubenheimer, 6 Rohan Kitshoff, 5 Jacques Lombaard, 4 Brendon Snyman, 3 Ruaan du Preez, 2 Rayno Barnes, 1 Albertus Buckle.
Replacements: 16 Simon Westraadt, 17 Steph Roberts, 18 Heinrich Stride, 19 Sean Plaatjies, 20 Dougie Hellmuth, 21 Hanno Coetzee, 22 Egon Seconds/Gavin Passens.

John Plumtree’s Sharks side will only be finalised on Friday morning, with a number of players still to pass fitness tests. Should Deon Carstens and Odwa Ndungane be cleared to play, then Ryan Kankowski in for Keegan Daniel and Guy Cronjé in for Monty Dumond will be the only changes to the starting 15. Waylon Murray makes a long-awaited return to the 22.

Sharks: 15 Stefan Terblanche (c), 14 Odwa Ndungane/Luzuko Vulindlu, 13 Andries Strauss, 12 Riaan Swanepoel, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Guy Cronje, 9 Rory Kockott, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Albert van den Berg, 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Patric Cilliers/Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Deon Carstens/Patric Cilliers.
Replacements: 16 Skipper Badenhorst, 17 Wiehahn Herbst/Dale Chadwick, 18 Michael Rhodes/Nikolai Blignaut, 19 Keegan Daniel, 20 Charl McLeod, 21 Monty Dumond, 22 Waylon Murray.

Duane Vermueluen will make his Currie Cup debut for Western Province in the number 7 jersey in place of Pieter Louw. Chris Jack and Wicus Blaauw have been rested, handing starts to Hilton Lobberts and JD Moller respectively. In the backs, injuries to Sireli Naqelevuki and Dewaldt Duvenage have opened the door for Joe Pietersen and Conrad Hoffman to start.

Western Province: 15. Joe Pietersen, 14. Tonderai Chavhanga, 13. Juan De Jongh, 12. Peter Grant, 11. Gio Aplon, 10. Willem De Waal, 9. Conrad Hoffmann, 8. Luke Watson (c), 7.Duane Vermeulen, 6. Francois Louw, 5. Anton Van Zyl, 4. Hilton Lobberts, 3 Brok Harris, 2. Tiaan Liebenberg, 1. JD Moller,

  • @wpw (Comment 12) : not a bad start, but you’ll struggle to find sub 100kg props. Maybe you are on the right track and we should just pick soft props instead.

    Put Andrews at 3.

Your 6 can be Jacques Botes.

12 can be Rob Ebersohn. Put that de Jongh lightie at 13.

  • Bulls should have played Dippenaar instead of Pretorius. Especially after last week.
Hougaard – unless injured – would still make a good option in the starting 15 – anywhere. Glad Stegman is back on the bench.

Good seeing Kockett not suspended. These citings are a farce in any case.

  • @robdylan (Comment 31) : Big mistake on his part. No offense to wp fans, but their backline hasn’t fired as much as their reputation has. And he m ay regress there.
To my mind, Olivier is key to the Bulls backline success the past couple of years. So to lose him would set them back big time.

If I were Bulls manangement, I’d make a counter offer to him in the same class as Matfield’s or du Preez’s contracts.

  • @robdylan (Comment 45) : On an interview last year, Olivier said he was still happy with his playing his rugby at the Bulls. That is why I can’t understand his reasoning. It’s not like the Bulls lose game after game or him on bad foot with the coaches.

A meeting was scheduled last week with the Bulls management and Olivier, but when he got called up to the bok camp it was cancelled.

BB Harmse will have a nevous breakdown if Lifling joins WP. The Bulls are the only team he can say anything good about and he has never said anything bad about Liefling.

The Quandry of having to either say something bad about Liefling or something good about a WP player may just be enough to push him over the edge.

Very few players stay somewhere just because they are happy there nowadays. (Look at Butch James and Dbn as an example)

I’m afraid that is one of the scurges of pro-rugby. A player is sucjkered into believeing that more money will mean more enjoyment or better playing conditions.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 68) : I don’t think it’s being suckered necessarily. They know that their playing days are limited and they will at the very best be able to work until they’re 38 so they need to put away as much as they can while they still can. Let’s be honest, during the amateur era, rugby was a hobby that generally came second to normal jobs which the players could return to fulltime once they retired.

I agree for the most part with that statement but I also do not believe that a move WITHIN SA will make that much of a difference to the financial future of WO. He is surely on a good packet at the Bulls and i cannot see the Stormers offering him much more than he is on now.

Bulls one of the richest unions in SA
WP one of the poorest big 5 unions in SA.

WPs top(est) dollar can’t be much higher than what WO is already getting at the Bulls.

I doubt we are one of the poorer unions.

We don’t owe anything on the stadium and like I said to McLovin last week, the fact that so many top earners have left WP means we have more dosh to spend (salary wise) on players like Fourie and Timotei.

Personally I think it’s great. Why should rugby have to step in to save soccer’s white elephant sale? Hopefully the Sharks can give Sutcliffe et al the finger too but I think they will have more trouble doing that.

Read a bit of each of those – both of Eddings’ sagas, and some of the extras.

The Belgariad was one of my first fantasy series, and it was brilliant at the time. In my opinion, everything else he wrote was just a repeat of that.

Dragonlance was ok – not really my cup of tea though.

Enjoyed Stephen Donaldson’s Thomas Covenant chronicles as well.

    But Terry is the best.
