The Bulls have been forced to make a change at blindside flank, with Gerrit-Jan van Velze coming in for the injured Dewald Potgieter. Returning from injury this week are Pedrie Wannenberg, Deon Stegmann and Burton Francis, all of whom will play off the wood. There’s been a bit of a cull on the bench with Jaco Engels, Fudge Mabeta and Francois Hougaardt all getting the chop. Young Stephan Dippenaar has been elevated from the under 21s, while Ruan Snyman will cover for Heini Adams at scrumhalf.

The Lions have Griquas at home, which should be one of the games of the round. All the big names that were rested last week are now back, with Baywatch Grobbellar leading the side and Herkie Kruger back at flyhalf. Earl Rose shifts to fullback, Alwyn Hollenbach to outside centre and Johan Jackson comes in at left wing for Henno Mentz. Janno Vermaak has pulled out and been replaced by Chris Jonck in the starting XV. In another late change, Walter Venter has withdrawn and will be replaced by Rouan Cloete.

The Cheetahs have once again brought in Jongi Nokwe for Lionel Mapoe at left wing. Promising openside flank Johan Wessels is injured and has been replaced by former Griqua Frans Viljoen. Lock Izak van der Westhuizen comes onto the bench.

Former Free State Vodacom Cup centre Berndt Theissinger (whose brother Adriaan is at the Sharks Academy) will start in the Leopards number 12 jersey this week. The previous holder, Japie Nel, was red-carded for a spot of ball-groping against the Lions and has been dropped from the squad, as he’s odd-on to receive a lengthy ban. Former Sharks Vodacom Cup winger Danie Dames drops out of the squad this week, while Thabo Mamojele, on loan to the Leopards from the Sharks, will look to get some much-needed gametime off the bench.

Griquas have kept changes to a minimum for their tough away assignment against the Lions and why wouldn’t they, having stuffed Boland by 73 points last weekend? Centre Wilmaure Louw is injured, meaning a start for Jaco Bekker at centre. In the only other change to the 22, Heinrich Stride replaces former Shark Nolan Clark on the bench.

John Plumtree’s Sharks side will only be finalised on Friday morning, with a number of players still to pass fitness tests. Should Deon Carstens and Odwa Ndungane be cleared to play, then Ryan Kankowski in for Keegan Daniel and Guy Cronjé in for Monty Dumond will be the only changes to the starting 15. Waylon Murray makes a long-awaited return to the 22.
