The Currie Cup Coach and Player of the Month competition, which will run during the course of the competition, rewards players who have consistently performed during each month of South Africa’s domestic competition. Coaches are also honoured on a monthly basis for their contribution to their team’s consistent performances in the tournament.
“I’m very proud that the player of the month also comes from my team and receiving coach of the month myself is an honour that every coach works hard for,” said Theron.
“I’m very happy. As Dr Danie Carven has said ‘to become a Springbok is hard but to stay one is even harder’, it’s an honour to win this award now the challenge is to hold on to it.”
Pretorius, who has been one of the stand-out performers for the Griquas added: “It’s a great privilege to receive this award.
“But I think all of the credit my go to the team as it’s a team effort. We take one game at a time and coming up the Lions are second on the log, so it’s going to be a very tough game for us but we will keep playing the best rugby for Griquas.”
