WP aiming to topple the Kwas

WP travel to Kimberly this week to try to tackle top of the log Griquas. Griquas have had a dream start to this seasons Currie Cup sitting pretty at the number one spot but face a WP team out to finally show what years have rebuilding have come to.

WP have have done well so far this season compared to the last few only going down narrowly to the Bulls at Loftus. Coach Allistair Coetzee made no bones about the importance of this match to this seasons aspirations and to the general spirit of the team. He has named what he feels is his strongest lineup bringing Wicus Blaauw , Chris Jack and Dewaldt Duvenhage back into the starting lineup with JD Moller and Conrad Hoffman move to the bench while Hilton Lobberts falls out of the match 22 to make place for Adriaan Fondse who has returned from injury.

Bolla Conradie has had to make way for the 2 scrummies who Coetzee considers the future of WP despite “knowing all the shortcuts on the field”. Sireli Naqelivuki is still reported to be on the short term injury list but a source who spoke to Sharksworld said that he has done major damage to his knee and should be out for at least 8 weeks so it looks like Frikkie Welsh and Gio Aplon will battle it out for that spot because Tonderai Chavhanga has looked the business with ball in hand with the chances he has had.

WP were less than impressive against the Leopards last week, the Leopards even did a lap of honour after the game because it was the first time this season a team pumped them by less than fifty. It seems Coetzee is also a huge believer in the “let Willem kick everything” approach and will employ it even if there was no opposition on the field. As a WP supporter I must admit I’ll take the wins even if it looks like Shrek.

Coetzee did admit he was not happy with the performance last week and I do hope they can get the blend right this week, the Kwas are very confident after their start and have momentum. They are also throwing out the fighting talk telling the press they aren’t afraid of Willems boot and saying they are very prepared for it, I reckon WP should toss Peter Grant the ball and tell him to go shatter their dreams.

  • Going to Kimberley is enough to make me very nervous.

Let alone having to play the locals in a game of rugby as well.
