New recruit Juan Martin Hernández will start at flyhalf for the Sharks when they take on the Leopards in the ABSA Currie Cup on Friday night.
The side shows five changes to the unit that downed Free State last weekend, with injuries forcing the hand of the coaching to a certain extent. Match-winning goal-kicker Rory Kockott will not make the trip, due to a shoulder injury picked up last week, necessitating the Argentinian’s selection as a starting goal-kicking option. Charl McLeod replaces Kockott in the number 9 jersey.
Prop Deon Carstens has a rib injury, so Pat Cilliers will be at loosehead this week, leaving the number 3 jersey to young Wiehahn Herbst, who did well coming on against the Cheetahs. Keegan Daniel starts in the number 6 shirt, while Skipper Badenhorst will be at hooker. Jacques Botes and Craig Burden will be on the bench this week, along with another youngster, Dale Chadwick, who takes Carstens’ place in the 22. Mike Rhodes, who had to cry off at the last minute last week, will be back in the number 18 jersey.
Outside of the halfbacks, the only other change to the backline is at right wing, where Chris Jordaan comes in for the injured Odwa Ndungane. Monty Dumond is the unfortunate player to miss out, as the Cronjé twins are named on the bench together with Waylon Murray.
