My take on rumours is that I’ll always wait until I have them confirmed by two independent sources before writing about them here. A recent article on suparugby.com has corroborated what I’d heard from a reliable source and it appears as if Lions lock Gerhard Mostert will join the Sharks in time for the 2010 Super 14.
Mostert is a pretty big guy, at 1.99m and somewhere in the region of 120kg. He started his career with the Leopards, playing under 20 rugby for them in 2003. He made his senior Lions debut in 2006, but had been hampered by injuries throughout his career. When fit and on song, he’s a ferocious player, but one wonders exactly how good a buy this is, given how fragile he seems to be. He is currently injured and won’t play at all in the Currie Cup.
According to the Super Rugby article, Mostert will join the Sharks at the beginning of November. I’ve heard that Albert van den Berg won’t be carrying on next year, meaning that the Sharks lock department could do with some strengthening. If Mostert is indeed coming to Durban and can stay fit, he should be a good addition to the squad.Tweet
