The Sharks under 21 team head into their final match of the first round needing to beat the Lions to stay in second place on the log. After initial wobbles against Western Province and the Bulls, the team did well to beat a superb Cheetahs team and will look to add the Lions to their list of victims.
Young loosehead Dale Chadwick, who made his senior Sharks début against the Leopards last week, will be back in the number 1 jersey this week, joining fellow SA Under 20 representatives Kyle Cooper and Julian Redelinghuys in the front row. Another Baby Bok, Jandre Marais, comes back into the second row this week to continue his partnership with Anton Bresler. Former Pretoria Boys’ utility forward Lee Thompson moves over to blindside flank this week, relegating Lambert Groenewald to the bench. Fellow loose forwards Siya Mdaka and Luvo Lusaseni keep their places at 6 and 8 respectively.
Captain Tian Meyer continues at flyhalf, with a new scrumhalf partner in Shannon Rick. Regular nine Alex Kock is out injured this week. The centre pairing of Gary Collins and Arno van Zyl have been retained, while there’s a change at left wing. Sevens Bok Milo Nqoro comes in for Rosco Specman, with the latter on the bench. The Michaelhouse duo of Mark Richard and Pat Lambie complete the back three.
New faces on the bench this week include hooker Hannes Snyman and Collegians flyhalf Jerome Pretorius, while utility forward Cam Dunlop comes back in after recovering from an injury sustained against the Bulls a few weeks ago. it will please KSA Sharks greatly to hear that Snyman is a Kroonstad boy too!

Three guys from my old school (EG Jansen) in the Lions 22
@walter van Lions World (Comment 2) : who?
Hein Cronjé, Wessel du Randt and Dewald Nel
This is the Lions under 21 side:
Hein Cronjé; Riaan Arends, Wiaan Buys, Murray de Bruin, Bernado Botha; Elton Jantjies, Danny Botha; Justin Wheeler ©, Thulip Marole, Johan van Deventer, David Bullbring, Levi Odendaal, Ryno Bosman, Martin Bezuidenhout, Danie van der Merwe.
Subs: Leon venter, Wessel du Randt, Shane Kirkwood, Mark Hennig, Rudy Paige, Dewald Nel, Blake Mecuur.
Rob, where is that huge centre/ flyhalf – Tossel?
And any news on the Kenyan wing?
@walter van Lions World (Comment 4) : some big names there. Bullbring played with Marais for the Baby Boks…
BTW, what’s with “Thulip” Marole? I though his name was Thilipatu? Or Serge
@Big Fish (Comment 5) : afraid the answer to both questions is “haven’t a clue”
Why is Justin Wheeler’s name familiar to me…
@robdylan (Comment 7) :
Thanks anyway pal.
@Big Fish (Comment 8) :
Having a bit of memeory problems there??
No Zuks? What has the poor guy done not to get picked?
@Bullitt (Comment 10) :
Is That Homer??
@Bullitt (Comment 10) : Welcome Bullitt, don’t think we’ve met. Welcome to Sharksworld
@Prof. Ice Babe(Super Girl) (Comment 11) : Yes
@Pokkel (Comment 12) : Thanks Pokkel, I only signed up yesterday.
@Big Fish (Comment 8) :
Because he’s already got quite a fe caps for the senior team as well, 11 to be exact..
@Pokkel (Comment 12) :
And he is a Sharks supporter…depsite the Bull in his nick!
6 Michaelhouse old boys in the two shark teams
Another michaelhouse old boy also in lions u21 murray de bruin. He should come join guy, ross, patrick and richards. They all played first team together 2 years ago.
@JJR (Comment 16) : not a bad return. Only one from Boys High!
Make that 18 out of 22 now! Got Milo, Shannon and Hannes too
@Bullitt (Comment 10) : is he still eligible for under 21s?
@robdylan (Comment 19) : Ah, I see he is turning 22 on 14 November. I don’t know how the laws work, but I suppose this means he is not.
@Bullitt (Comment 20) : reckon he’s missed out by a few months
@Bullitt (Comment 20) : you’re a big fan, I gather?
just got Pretorius too, so now I HAVE 19/22
I have a pending request with Thompson. De Bruin and Specman aren’t on Facebook
@robdylan (Comment 22) : He is a very exciting player. It was just weird how he was on the scene in a big way, and has now disappeared, not even making the bench.
@Bullitt (Comment 24) : yeah, but if you look at it, he’s only really dropped out of the squad since Murray came back in. I don’t think it means they’ve thrown him away, just that Murray is higher in the pcking order, which I think is right.
Zuks’s problem is that he’s not really a wing and has never looked comfortable there.
@robdylan (Comment 25) :
FB stalker…
@blackshark (Comment 26) : har har
Hello hello
@Bullitt (Comment 10) : Hello Bullit !
@Prof. Ice Babe(Super Girl) (Comment 9) : Hello Super Girl

@robdylan (Comment 29) : talking about FB – got your invite some time back. thanx. but I’m not on.
@rekinek (Comment 30) : it’s ok… it’s not an absolute requirement
