  • @Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 7) : Hi, good to actually be here. Been really busy preparing for the Laser Worlds. I am leaving on Wednesday and the first race is scheduled for Sunday. It has been keeping me really busy, trying to spend enough time in the boat to be somewhat competitive.

GOOD LUCK….hope you get the kind of winds that suit you, although you did say the wind up there can be pretty strong, most of the time

  • @Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 9) : Hehehe, thanks I have been watching the weather up there, and there has not been much wind this summer. Then this last week, the temperatures got up into the upper 20s, and the sea breeze started to come in. Been 15-20 knots every day there this week. I hope it holds for the worlds. My weight is down to perfect Laser weight now (83 kgs) so hopefully won’t have to pray for breeze.

Campbell Alexaner is the Commodore of PYC at the moment, so don’t think he’ll be there.

  • @Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 13) : I was really hoping to see Colin Dibb there, but he is not entered. He is living in Perth now, and actually won the Laser Masters Worlds a few years ago. Not sure why he is not there. There are a few South Africans entered, but nobody I recognize. Give me a moment and I will check.

So looks like Campbell will be there, Commodore duties and all. I will have to look him up. Hopefully be able to swap shirts at the banquet.

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 14) : ou and your folks must remember ole Trevor Dibb?? My mary sailed the Morror Worlds with him in 1999(?) at Saldanah Bay. He is now doing a great job running the PYC programme, aimed at introducing juniors to sailing.

  • @Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 16) : Know the Dibbs quite well. I bought my Dabchick from Colin, and then in 1980 (after I had moved to the US) we met at the North Americans and traveled together to the Canadian Nationals and Worlds that year.

It is so important to have someone dedicating their time to getting Juniors involved in the sport, otherwise the sport will fade very quickly. SO much more glamorous to play other sports.
