A bit of good news coming out of Durban. It appears as though all of the players listed as doubtful earlier in the week have recovered sufficiently to be considered for selection against Western Province.
It’s in the backline where the coaching staff now have the most options, with Charl McLeod and Rory Kockott both available in the number 9 jersey and Juan Hernández challenging Monty Dumond for the flyhalf berth. The Cronjé twins, Ross and Guy, will likely have to make do with some Under 21 gametime this week.
Riaan Swanepoel and Andries Strauss are also both available for the game, with Waylon Murray adding a third centre option from which the coaches will need to pick two.
Amongst the pack, Keegan Daniel should be fit to start, despite being doubtful earlier in the week, while Deon Carstens and Wiehahn Herbst are both available as well – the latter having escaped further sanction after attending a disciplinary hearing yesterday. Further good news is the return of prop Melusi Mthethwa and lock Alistair Hargreaves from long-term ankle injuries.
