Anyone see an article on Sport24 today linking Heinrich Brussow to the Sharks?
Sounds really speculative, doesn’t it? Not one that I’ve heard before. What do you guys think? Anyone heard anything that might corroborate this report? The article in question didn’t have an authors name attached, since it came from SAPA.
It looks like were trying to buy our way out of the shit again, but whatever the reason, Brussow would be a superb buy. How would you fit him into a team that might possibly also include Willem Alberts, together with our current crop of loosies.
Plenty of questions, that’s for sure…

Have not heard anything yet, don’t know if that’s what we really need though?
Didnt he recently extend his contract with the Cheaters??
@wpw (Comment 2) : that’s what I thought too…
Reckon this is just journalistic bollocks.
@robdylan (Comment 3) : rob i dont see the article, are you pulling our legs? its not april fools!
@war1 (Comment 4) : ok, i see it now, but it seems quite speculative
It’s the time of the year when all sorts of rumours surface. Not much else to write about. I doubt there is ANY substance whatsoever to the rumour. And Sport 24 are notorious for highly speculative articles!
@Villie (Comment 6) : i immediately looked for a very particular name when I read the article. Rhymes with Davin Mich
@war1 (Comment 5) : i only really highlighted it because it was so left field. There was nothing else worth repeating in the article. Just the usual Plum excuses
The way I read it it is one of those Bernie Habana / Piet Va%&$a fishing expiditions by an agent to make the union think the player is going to sign elsewhere in an attempt to extort more money from the union.
@robdylan (Comment 8) : not good enough. i know you know what i think should happen to him
@robdylan (Comment 8) : btw THAT article is up
@war1 (Comment 10) :
Still after that head are you? A head. ANY head will do.
IF any of this is true then maybe they can put Daniel out to pasture on a stud farm somehwere.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 12) : i think he should go, he has proved he is not up for this job, super 14 and now this, its not acceptable, he gets paid to make excuses nowadays
@war1 (Comment 14) :
Who coached the Sharks to win last year’s CC trophy?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 15) : i dont know, coz it could not hav been plum with what he has been up to this year?
phantom coach
@war1 (Comment 16) :
War1, to me the bottom line is simple.
We didn’t gain our “chocker” tag for losing in this years CC Semi OR not making this years S14 play-offs.
We have got that tag through MANY years of repeatedly coming close but not actually getting there.
It is not suddenly the coach’s fault. It has almost become as natural to the Sharks team as winning the CC final has become to the Bulls over their long history.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 18) : and then he fires the mental coach/psychologist of the team that are undisputedly the weakest mentally provincial team
@war1 (Comment 19) :
Again, we can’t blame this on Plumtree or who he hired and fired. He fired the mental coach long before we won the CC, we also had out chocker tag even with the mental coach.
We are destined to be bridesmaids.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 20) : and you’re happy to just accept that?
@robdylan (Comment 21) :
Not even close, but I have made peace with the fact that no matter how much I rant and rave, they aren’t going to listen to anyhting I suggest.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 22) : true, (sigh)
should we really be worrying about more forwards when we have poor centrs. how much longer can we win with woeful adi? we need two quality centres or we are going to have an even worse seaon next year.
@try time (Comment 24) : So say I. We really need some players in the backline that can deliver the punch.
@try time (Comment 24) : first we need a gameplan, and also without good forwards our good centres won’t see the ball
good players make gameplan. secondly have the best captain of the world as your teams capain. and finally drop adi. he has been the weak link in the sharks all year. last week i was pleased to see some decency in his play this week he was back to how he has been all season. yesterday he and jonker lost the game for the sharks. i am not saying that the sharks showered themselves with glory, but had waylon been there instead of adi, we wouldn’t have lost. as for jonker i have one question how can the cheetahs turnover sharks ball in a ruck if no-one is on their feet? magic, or players playing the ball on the ground? jonker’s form has gone the same way adi’s has this year.
@try time (Comment 27) : i think the biggest thing is that smittie should be captain, the refs have been nailing the sharks on the breakdown the whole season, badly, i did not see any of this match, only heard some on the radio, but the previous game against the ‘tahs in the tank had some ridiculously biased reffing against the sharks
@try time (Comment 27) : but you blame all the refs! Maybe it’s you?
@robdylan (Comment 29) : Unfortunately Saturday was all our fault, no ref can be blamed for the way we played.
@mbayshark (Comment 30) : agree
@robdylan (Comment 29) : damn right i blame mark lawrence for giving the game to the bulls for a high tackle that was no worse than the one he allowed early in tghe game by a bulls player. i blame the laws for making refs the incompetent bunch they are. but as we will see if the laws aren’t sorted out soon, empty stands will be a norm in rugby. but to be fair the sharks were worse than jonker. but not by much.
@mbayshark (Comment 30) : i agree. but lets not let the ref off the hook either.
why not have two refs per game? one per half. a lot of poor decisions get made by referees near the end of the game. and i feel it is due to fatigue. so have the ref swop half time ith the assistent referee. at least we now we have a frsh referee to make good calls.
@try time (Comment 34) : why not allow teams to cite referees and ban blind bryce lawrence for missing all that knock on, hands in the ruck stuff from the bulls in the super 14 final of 2007 when he was tj
@try time (Comment 34) :
@war1 (Comment 35) :
Why not become referees yourselves, to show them all how it should be done? I can send you the contact info for the Durban Rugby Referees society.
@war1 (Comment 35) : @KSA Shark © (Comment 36) : ….and before you do that take the test on line and see how little you do know, I took it the other day and was horrified by how intricate the laws are, its not surprising that the refs have such a hard time, they really are ridiculous. Check it out http://www.irblaws.com.
Rob,I was under the impression that Brussouw had recently signed a new two year deal with the cheetahs, this boy is a bloem boytjie through and through, cant see him leaving.
@mbayshark (Comment 30) : i would say this is the second semi we have blown due to bad selection, epi is one, and no outside back reserve for this one????
I watched the game and I have to say the Sharks were damn poor in all apsects of the game.
Their front row took a beating… their locks were nowhere… and lets not get started on their loose forwards… Kanko tried but he didn’t have a good game.
The only player who I thought was pretty decent was JPP.
Oupa Stef also kicked away loads of possession!!
@wpw (Comment 40) : I agree. and the scary thing was that is the Bok frontrow, not sure bismark was 100% and one has to wonder if John Smit is out of his depth as a prop. The other thing we have not said is that the Cheetahs were up for the game. I still think plum has got to look at his loosies, time to discard a couple maybe??
@wpw (Comment 40) : i think swannies had a good one
@willa (Comment 42) : that kid is a star. Future captain
Good morning all Sharks fans.
I noticed that the Boks did not integrate well with their return to either the Sharks or the Bulls. Is it possible that they are tired, or that they struggle to get the motivation up there?
The halftime score of the Sharks/Cheetahs game was 15-3, so the Cheetahs “won” the second half 20-6.
The halftime score at Newlands was 12-6, so WP “won” the second half 13-9.
Coincidence?
I am sorry the Sharks went down on Saturday. A final between the Sharks and Bulls is a much better reflection of the strenghs in SA Rugby.
@BGG (Comment 45) : thanks. That’s really big of you, given all that’s happened in the past. We’re obviously all really disappointed at the moment. Well done to your team. They found a way to win and I suspect they will be a lot better in two weeks’ time
@robdylan (Comment 43) : he has more commitment than the whole team
@KSA Shark © (Comment 36) : @Whindy (Comment 37) : ksa, you aren’t understanding what i am saying. i blame the refs, but i also blame the laws for creating this mess. the laws are so complex it baffles the refs, so much they forget the basics. when i have complained about refs i have always questioned why rugby laws have to be so ridiculous. i have been calling for simplification of laws for 2 years now. so if the refs are happy to stick with them, then they must accept all the criticism levelled at them. as for being a ref i am too unfit and fat for that, so i’ll leave that to the the guys that love getting abused.
@try time (Comment 48) :
I have said before:
Why do they not have all the refs together – explain the laws and how it should be interpreted..
I mean in netball for instance – a ref is not allowed to “interpret” rules – it is deadsure rules. If this happens its a free throught if that happens its a penalty shot. Finish and klaar.
Surely that can be done with rugby laws too?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 36) :
While you are handing out contact details, please attach the application forms for Sharks senior coach.
@Salmonoid (Comment 50) :
@try time (Comment 32) : Eish – “giving the game to the Bulls” Pity some people can never accept a defeat ‘with grace.” WP should have, could have, BUT did not put enough of a lead on the scoreboard for one incident to make a difference.What about alle the high tackles made by WP that were missed, home ground advantage, booing, the wonderful Luke (the Puke) contribution – nothing, nada, nil – BULLS won. Build a bridge and get over it.
@diablo (Comment 52) : Have to agree with you on this one. Why moan at the ref for a mistake they actually did make. And the WP crowd’s booing it has to even drive some of their own fans insane.
@diablo (Comment 52) :
Bru, just so you know, trytime is NOT a WP supporter (thank goodness)
He supports the Guppies!!!
@war1 (Comment 35) : yes – and overturn decisions, like in Idols, let them keep awards (where they any awards ? cups?) and we get the trophy
morning……
@wpw (Comment 54) : who would have guessed
@diablo (Comment 52) : diablo, why i bought that incident up is cos i was highlighting how the two refs decided the finalists on saturday. i was showing that it wasn’t just a sour grapes thing cos the sharks lost. both refs made mistakes at the end that cost a team the game. as i also said the sharks were worse than the ref though, so they cannot complain about the result. my complaint is refs are playing too big a part in deciding winners, and its time for it to be sorted out before we head into another world cup marred by poor ref decisions.
@try time (Comment 57) : we also know that on the international scene the boks get the worst of the refs. and hence the worst decisions against them. do we really want to exit the world cup like new zealand did in 2007. eventhough in 2007 the all blacks were worse than the wayne barnes.
