I see Manie Reynecke is shooting his mouth off on yet another website today about how the Lions will fight “tooth and nail” to prevent Willem Alberts and Louis Ludik from joining the Sharks.
This chap really needs to get a grip on reality. Fact number 1, Manie, is that neither player wants to stay in Johannesburg. Fact number 2, Manie, is that you do not have a contract with either that is enforceable. You went to arbitration over Jaque Fourie and lost, because your contracting process is a mess. That’s your fault, as CEO. Admit your mistakes, take it on the chin and move on.
Throwing good money after bad is not going to achieve anything for the Lions and is further going to do nothing other than harm the players, as they’ll potentially have to wait up to three months before joining their new team mates. Going this route is nothing other than mean-spirited and spiteful, particularly since you already know that both players want to leave and that there’s nothing practical you can do to stop them doing so. All you can do is delay the process.
Dick Muir is rumoured to have said that he only wants to work with players who are committed to the Lions’ cause. Accept, please, that Louis Ludik and Willem Ablerts are not and let them go.Tweet
