Well, the 2009 Currie Cup has come and gone and we’re proud to announce the winners of the JustRugby Last Man Standing and Fantasy League competitions!

Fantasy League has been a pretty closely contested affair, with a number of contestants remaining within a few points of one another over the course of 16 weeks. Our very own Pokkel has been right up there since the start and he did well to finish in third place overall with 6506.5 points. Coming in second was Ekkies XV with 6524.75 points, but our overall winner was Ellie is die Beste with an impressive total of 6526.75. Talk about a narrow winning margin!

Well done, Ellie. We’ll be in touch shortly to discuss your prize. Do pop into Sharksworld more regularly – we’d love to see more of you!

Last Man Standing had to go into a tie-break round as we have no fewer than 9 contestants still alive, with a lifeline, after the end of the round-robin phase. Our decider was based on Sharksworld participation and although Volstruis, our third-placed contestant, started out all right, it soon became clear that it would be a two-horse race. Whindy started out in front, but was finally beaten into second place by our ultimate winner, mbayshark, who did a superb commentary job on Saturday to get his nose in front just in time.

Both winners will receive a supporters’ jersey of their choice and we’ll be in touch via email to discuss the logistics. We’re hoping to get some photos of the lucky winners proudly showing off their prizes.

Thanks to everyone for playing and do keep your eyes open for our 2010 Super 14 competitions over on www.justrugby.net.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 1) : you volunteering to help with the match scoring? It is bad enough in the Currie Cup with only 4 games a weekend. Super 14 is a nightmare! Especially since you get people emailing you to complain when it isn’t done quickly enough…
