According to reports, Skipper Badenhorst will also be leaving the Sharks.
The former Affies hooker looks set to join the Cheetahs for the upcoming Super 14, just a day after it was announced that Monty Dumond will be in orange next year. Skipper’s move, though, is a permanent one and he’ll be with the Cheetahs for 2 years. He should come straight into the squad to take Richardt Strauss’s number 16 jersey.
Strauss has already left Bloemfontein to play for Leinster in Ireland.
Another somewhat familiar face in the Cheetahs squad is that of former Bulls winger Rocco Jansen. Ardent fans will remember that Jansen played for the Sharks invitational XV against the Pumas earlier this year, only to be sent packing again. After a stint with the Mighty Elephants in the Currie Cup first division, Jansen has signed with Griquas for the upcoming season and will be available for the Cheetahs Super 14 squad.
There are at least two other tugs-of-love developing, though, with Griquas lock Jacques Lombard named in both the Cheetahs and the Lions training squads. According to the not-very-reliable Lions camp, Lombard is already with them while he negotiates his way out of his Griquas contract. The Lions have also denied speculation that they are trying to sign Chilliboy Rallepele from the Bulls, despite the player himself seemingly being keen on the move.

Happy days
And the Stormers signed…….Fabian Juries.
I can just hear the joy in Robs voice as he bashed the headline for this article
and on superrugby its revealed that JP joubert is going to the Lions aswell. Honestly, i thought Jp gave the Cheetahs backs good, quick ball…
AND they also claim that Louis Ludick has already moved to Umhlanga and Willem Alberts is also on his way, but the Bulls also wants to sign him… who`s Spies deputy at the Bulls??
@VanWilder (Comment 3) : JP Joubert is like 40 years old.
@VanWilder (Comment 3) : correction – Suparugby…
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 4) : but still better than Tewis in my book. maybe for the Super 14 Sarel will start…
@VanWilder (Comment 3) : the cheetahs shouldn’t have replaced him with debruyn – would have been closer affair on sat.
JP Joubert is slower than Sir Eli…
He had a head start of about 15 meters yet Habana still managed to jog past him for one of his tries.
Shit – this calls for a David Kramer tune!
Pak op, pak op
sit jou goedjies op jou kop
more gaan ons weg,
ver van hier weg
skip(skop), skip(skop),
wanneer hou die dinge op
swaarkry le net voor
die Drakensberge oor
Namibier se mens
isse ek gebore,
op die plek skipskop
nes my pa en sy pa ook.
hier deurie duine, loop onse spore
hier op die beach hier langs die see is ek gekoop
maar wat ken ek anders
as die bloudam se branders
die wolke en die winde wat hier waai
maar verkoop jou truitjie, pak op jou goedjies
en se maar so long skip(skop), skip(skop) se goodbye
se maar so long skipskop skipskop se goodbye
se maar so long skipskop skipskop se goodbye
Holy smokes – just realised that in 3 years jp has played for Boland,Stormers,Bulls and is now going to the Lions, at what age is the Sharks going to get him?
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 10) :
Nahhh, after this I reckon he is ready for retirement and will go back to WP..
I have no problem with clearing out the deadweight, but it would be a lot more comforting to hear of some quality replacements coming in. All the outgoings are confirmed, except Murray, yet all the incomings are speculatory. We could end up with egg on our faces if we get rid of all our back ups and don’t land any of the players we have our eyes on. Now to shaft Andries Strauss and get a quality inside centre. Bring Peter Grant home! A 9-10-12 of Pienaar, Hernandez and Grant would be pretty sweet. Not a chance Province will let him go though :/
@rekinek (Comment 7) : agree – Tewis to slow on the ball…
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 1) :
If he starts ahead of Sir Eli then fine.
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 11) :
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 11) :
You took long enough.
Goodbye Skip – good luck there by Vrystaat!
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 16) :
I am busy , give me a break!
@VanWilder (Comment 13) :
Anyone interested in reading about my life???
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 9) :
David Kramer is a LEGEND!!!
@wpw (Comment 20) :
YEAH!!
check what I’ve created: http://www.sharksworld.co.za/2010-transfers/
Please can you guys help me get it complete…
@robdylan (Comment 22) :
How?
BTW – the Skipper thing was also in BEELD..
Who?
According to the no-very-reliable Lions camp, Lombard is already with them while he negotiates his way out of his Griquas contract.
It seems the two words “Lions” and “contract” are very much newsworthy right now.
When?
@Baldrick (Comment 25) :
in a notorius sort of way…
Okay…Chilliboy is not going anywwhere..
Where?
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 28) : Sy bloed is nog blou. But only after the Lions legal team could’t manage to find a loophole in his blou contract.
What?
@McLovin (Comment 30) :
truth is, even if there WAS, i doubt if they’d see it!
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 32) :
Low blow, but probably true.
Why?
How much?
@McLovin (Comment 33) :
lou blou vir die lous…
@Baldrick (Comment 25) : seems like the words “Lions” and “double standards” seem to go together quite well these days
Maybe we should find words that go with Lions:
Lions:
+ Contract
+ Winning Ways
+ These players are going nowhere
Any more?
@Baldrick (Comment 38) : + Kevin de Klerk and Manie Reyneke are delusional f*ckwits? Or is that going too far?
@Baldrick (Comment 38) :
Lions
+ losers
+ para legals
Has Jacque Fourie’s move been confirmed? I know he’s out his contract but I thought he was still in negotiations.
@Baldrick (Comment 38) :
+tin
+you cab still have beers on stands
oh, and another one. Is Ludick up and running? Leg all healed?
@molly (Comment 41) : I’m assuming it’s a done deal
@molly (Comment 43) : apparently he’ll be back about 2 weeks into the Super 14
the Skipper signing is now up on the Free State website. We can take it as confirmed.
So, the Sharks have now lost
Skipper, Warren Whiteley, Len, Monty and Big Nik (I believe)… along with Dauw Steyn and Alex Kock from the under 21s.
Confirmed signings = ZIP
@robdylan (Comment 44) : Ludick is a great buy for you guys.
@robdylan (Comment 45) :
wonder-bloddy-ful..
@molly (Comment 46) : I think so too… we’re actually looking ok in the backs, I think.
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 47) : it’s just because Oom Rudi hates the media. We know they’re happening. Rudi just refuses to tell us about them
@robdylan (Comment 48) : Please right out all the backs and replacements incase of injury, for S14 – obviously as we stand now, ’cause that is what panicks me a bit especially if Waylon does leave. Andries at centre
@robdylan (Comment 49) :
Dumb twit…you know what – I was actually rather a fan of his when he played…until he started “coaching”
@robdylan (Comment 49) : Shame don’t blame Oom Rudi
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 51) : If it wasn’t for the media Oom Rudi could still be leading those army camps of his
Ice our timing is out, we could have assisted oom Rudi with these camps, what with naked springboks
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 53) :
Flippit – and I nogals have the “gear” for shouting some instructions…
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 53) : hey – what’s this I hear about you starting seditious rumours about John Mitchell?
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 50) : planning on doing a series of articles, but what the hell… let’s just list them here:
9: Pienaar, Kockott, McLeod, R Cronje, Tian Meyer (u 21)
10: Hernandez, G Cronje
11/14: Ndungane, Pietersen, Mvovo, Jordaan, Mark Richards (u21), Rosco Specman (u21), Milo Nqoro (u21)
12/13: Jacobs, Murray, Swanepoel, Vulindlu, Strauss, George Tossel (u21), Arno van Zyl (u21), Jerome Pretorius (u21), Gary Collins (u21)
15: Terblanche, Ludik, Pat Lambie(u21)
@robdylan (Comment 56) : that does look awfully thin… have I missed out some names?
@robdylan (Comment 55) : It was in one of the KZN papers, that John Mitchell was interested in his friend’s place at the Sharks when his contract with the Force ended in 2010. So when I read that post from Volksblad stating that John Plumtree whanted to leave at end of S14, I put two and two together
I will see if I can find that article, it came out shortly after Mitchell had assisted the Sharks at cc. Don’t know how much truth there is in that journo bit though. Will go immediately to the Witness and Mercury, unfortunately if it was in the Daily news I am not subscribed. Let me go check.
was it me or does rosco specman have flipin quick feet…looked quite promising
@willa (Comment 59) : I think he’s a definite prospect, oh yes.
Found it!!!!! It was in the Sunday Times: I’ll paste some of the article its way too long to paste the whole thing,…
“Sep 8, 2009 10:02 AM | By Tightheads & Loose Balls: Simnikiwe Xabanisa and Liam Del Carme
——————————————————————————–
Just when we thought the idea of Western Force coach John Mitchell handing out the Bok jerseys for the Perth game sat uncomfortably only with this column, it has emerged that there’s been a kerfuffle among the Aussies over that gesture.
——————————————————————————–
Current Font Size:
It would seem some of the six Force players involved in last week’s game against the Boks were, as the Aussies would put it, filthy about their coach delivering what amounted to a pep talk to their rivals ahead of such an important fixture. Not that “Mitch” would care – the Force players turned on him before the Super 14 season in what amounted to a vote of no-confidence in his managing abilities. The word is that the former All Black coach might be angling for a South African gig, that of friend and compatriot John Plumtree at the Sharks, to be exact.
@robdylan (Comment 57) : Rob it is a bit thin, Guy Cronje battled in CC so to launch him into S14 if Hernandez gets injured terrifies me. At wing we are fine, although I honestly would replace Odwa with Mvovo. Centre worries me sick, if Waylon does leave, we are left with U21 players that have not even played CC, and Strauss, terrifying prospect! Oops okay sorry forgot Vulindlu! FB if Ludick comes that is great!
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 62) : did guy really battle in the CC?
@Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 62) : oh yeah – I also tend to forget Zuks.
Look, Adi just needs to get his head right. He was great in 08, but his inconsistency is a real concern. When he’s on top of his game, I really don’t mind him at either 12 or 13. To me, Swannie has done enough to prove that he should be starting at 12, with one of Waylon, Adi or Zuks outside him.
@robdylan (Comment 64) : I also believe that Swannie needs to be in the starting line up, but injuries happen and then? That is what worries me. As far as starting 15 the Sharks look great its once the injuries start happening that I worry!
@robdylan (Comment 63) : I just remember him in 2 games? One he was terrible, the one against WP, admittedly it was his first game. He was good against Boland but then Boland were not much of an oposition this year, and then I don’t remember him even making the bench again.
@robdylan (Comment 56) : firstly – i think Gary Collins is also on his way out. He is linked with UJ for the varsity cup, so another centre gone.
Secondly – ludick can also play wing, and i may be wrong, but for a big part of the super 14 he played wing to make way for Sir Rose. (can u believe it…?)
okey, so maybe our problems at centre coulb be solved… what about john smit?
(the try against the british lions – first test) (the try from his kick at newlands against the aussies??)
@VanWilder (Comment 66) :
and i think we are going to see the value we had in frans steyn now that he`s gone, he could play anything from flyhalf to fullback, and still be a world class-ish player in any position.
@VanWilder (Comment 66) : Van, you seem awfully close to the grapevine. May I ask how you know this stuff? You can mail me if you’d rather not come clean on the site… rob@sharksworld.oo.za
@robdylan (Comment 69) : okey, i must come clean… i`m joost van der westhuizen…
no, read the Gary Collins story on Suparugby, and as he hails from jhb, it made sence… also in that article is the fact that Alfred Ries (U/21 Hooker) is on his way to UJ (according to them, confirmed). i`m actually from potch, so i usually have a look at the varsity cup movements (as i`m a pukke fan)
i have a few contact at the leopards if u guys want to know their movements
@VanWilder (Comment 70) :
@VanWilder (Comment 70) :
You visit Suparugby???
@wpw (Comment 72) : they show pictures…
i`m really sorry!!
@VanWilder (Comment 73) :
hehehe
Nah dude, its all good!!!
@VanWilder (Comment 68) : when he’s at flyhalf, he’s more “ish” than he is “world class”
@VanWilder (Comment 73) : i also check Suparugby pretty regularly, bust must have missed the story about Collins and Ries
@robdylan (Comment 75) : thank your lucky stars… we could have had earl rose at flyhalf…
@robdylan (Comment 76) : the article is still on that site. i dont know how big a loss those two are, but i think collins took a few award at the academy while he was u/19.
@VanWilder (Comment 70) :
Did you see our lekker discussion about you and Amore??
@VanWilder (Comment 77) : Van, call me crazy (and I know you will) but I prefer Earl at flyhalf to Frans
@VanWilder (Comment 78) : what was the headline?
@robdylan (Comment 80) :
I like Fransie at 12..
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 82) :
Please read your comment again… but this time read it slowly!!
oh, wait – found it.
So Ries is confirmed and Collins is a maybe, I know of one other Sharks under 21 player who is talking to UJ as well
@wpw (Comment 83) : eh?
Lionel Cronje to WP, for the transfer list?
@wpw (Comment 83) :
I’ll see you at midnight?
@robdylan (Comment 81) : something about waqa and macdonald at UJ…
@robdylan (Comment 80) : and you are crazy!
@GI Ice (Bulletproof) (Comment 79) : listen i dont like the way you talk about my wife! she`s a fine piece of meat!! and by the way everybody, buy my book, its for a good cause… support the “needie”… sniff sniff, sorry, got something on my nose…
@robdylan (Comment 80) : remember rob, if your beloved earl takes off all his padding and bra-starps and his mothers matrass, he`s going to weigh a mere 45kgs…
@VanWilder (Comment 89) :
Heito!! Then maybe I shoudl try out for the spot!!
@molly (Comment 86) : gotcha – thanks
@VanWilder (Comment 89) : it’s not that I like Earl… it’s that I loathe Frans
question, though… should we be including junior players on our transfer list? They do move around a lot…
Then again, Cronje is a big name, so I’ll put him on. Not going to be putting Alfred Ries and Dauw Steyn on, though
@robdylan (Comment 92) : frans steyn is a selfish “glory boy” he mostly just runs on his own, even at flyhalf!!
@robdylan (Comment 93) : why not add schools players as well, if you’ve got nothing to do for a week
@war1 (Comment 95) : now did I ever say that?
@robdylan (Comment 96) : he he, maybe you should rather “work”
