Two Bulls sent home

Both Gurthrö Steenkamp and Malatse Ralepelle will return home from the Boks end-of-year tour, having picked up knee and foot injuries respectively in the defeat against Leicester.

Ralepelle, earmarked as the Boks’ midweek captain, only lasted 20 minutes before aggravating the injury which kept him out of the Currie Cup final – a pretty sure indication that the bloke shouldn’t have toured in the first place. I really wish that the Bok selectors would back off when it comes to Chilli – the poor kid needs to get back to full fitness and form before being selected for any further international duty. We all get that he’s the captain-elect, but he needs to be able to play a full game first!

Cheetahs hooker Adriaan Strauss will replace Chilli in the tour party and will in all likelihood feature in the match 22 against France this coming weekend. Provincial teammate Wian du Preez will replace Steenkamp, who endured a pretty average outing against fearsome Leicester tighthead Martin Castrogiovanni. Du Preez, considered by most to be the best scrummaging loosehead on display in the Currie Cup, will no doubt be afforded an opportunity to show what he can do against the hairy Italian when the Bok dirt trackers take on Italy later this month.

  • This nonsense about Chilli being the next captain needs to end.

He only captained at U21 level and has since then been injured.

He didn’t deserve to be part of the Bok squad this year and I think most people know it.

How much rugby has he actually played in the last 3 years??

  • @willa (Comment 2) : He was pushed too soon saru needed a black captain and he had all the attributes, however he was not allowed to develop and has been injured more often than not give his body a chance to heal and get stronger before throwing him in again, OR ELSE FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. It is as simple as that, this poor guy has gone backwards in the last two years because of this stupid policy!!
