Both Gurthrö Steenkamp and Malatse Ralepelle will return home from the Boks end-of-year tour, having picked up knee and foot injuries respectively in the defeat against Leicester.
Ralepelle, earmarked as the Boks’ midweek captain, only lasted 20 minutes before aggravating the injury which kept him out of the Currie Cup final – a pretty sure indication that the bloke shouldn’t have toured in the first place. I really wish that the Bok selectors would back off when it comes to Chilli – the poor kid needs to get back to full fitness and form before being selected for any further international duty. We all get that he’s the captain-elect, but he needs to be able to play a full game first!
Cheetahs hooker Adriaan Strauss will replace Chilli in the tour party and will in all likelihood feature in the match 22 against France this coming weekend. Provincial teammate Wian du Preez will replace Steenkamp, who endured a pretty average outing against fearsome Leicester tighthead Martin Castrogiovanni. Du Preez, considered by most to be the best scrummaging loosehead on display in the Currie Cup, will no doubt be afforded an opportunity to show what he can do against the hairy Italian when the Bok dirt trackers take on Italy later this month.Tweet
