Six test Springboks and the uncapped WP Nel will start for the Barbarians against New Zealand this weekend. Two further Boks have been named on the bench.Bulls skipper Victor Matfield will lead the side from the second row, where he’ll partner former Durbanite Carlo de Fava, currently an Italian national representative. Nel will start at tighthead alongside Bismarck du Plessis of the Sharks. Another Italian completes the tight five, with Salvatore Perugini at loosehead. Schalk Burger is back at openside flank, with Australians Rocky Elsom (blindside) and George Smith (number 8) making up the balance of the loose trio.
Fourie du Preez, Jacque Fourie and Bryan Habana all start amongst the backs, with a pair of Australians at flyhalf (Matt Giteau) and fullback (Drew Mitchell). Welshman Jamie Roberts will be Fourie’s centre partner and the big number 12 should prove the perfect foil for the pacey South African. All Black Joe Rokocoko completes a star-studded lineup as he wears the number 14 shirt.
Sharks prop Beast Mtawarira and Bulls pivot Morne Steyn are on the bench, together with yet another SA-born Italian lock in Quintin Geldenhuys.

Does anyone know when and where this game is showing?
this shows that rugby has become all about the money these days, the boks should be resting! good one for wp nel, hope he comes through ok
@Bullitt (Comment 1) : I heard a rumour it won’t be on TV is Saffaland… can anyone confirm?
Over here, it’s on BBC
@war1 (Comment 2) : umm, you understand the meaning of the word “professional”, right?
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Sounds about right Rob, I can’t find it anywhere on the SuperSport site. Quite odd.
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
ya ya, but its reaching ridiculous proportions, im sure these guys have enough money, this match should not have been played, it fills the coffers of the admin guys as well, i dont think this is wise
@war1 (Comment 6) : well, If I had to choose, I’d rather sacrifice the completely oversized Tri-Nations if it meant more room in the calendar for BaaBaas games and tour midweek games.
@robdylan (Comment 3) : maybe they decided we had enough of watching of tired boks
@war1 (Comment 6) : same feeling here
@rekinek (Comment 8) : he he
I think the resting argument would hold more water if the Boks had been pulled from the EOYT, the horse has bolted about 4 weeks ago.
@Salmonoid (Comment 11) : correctamundo. We need to reposition these EOYT things as development tours
I struggle to believe Super Dick wads won’t broadcast this game?
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 13) : seems odd, doesn’t it?
@robdylan (Comment 14) : Very. They normally bend over backwards to broadcast Jan and His brothers kicking a ball round his backyard….
I am sure it will be broadcast – they just change there schedules late in the week.
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 15) : yeah – I remember that
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 15) : @robdylan (Comment 14) :
Roundball is much more NB than this shite!!!
YNWA!!
@wpw (Comment 17) : You’ll Never Win Again?
I used to enjoy roundball when there wasnt so much of it on TV, now its a serious case of overkill.
Having said that the best roundball action is normally around the silly season when they show the 100 best goals, worst bloopers, best saves etc.
@robdylan (Comment 18) :
Shows what kind of Liverpool supporter you are, doesn’t it??
@wpw (Comment 20) : I’ve never pretended to be a good one, Wes
@robdylan (Comment 21) : it seems it wont be on ss, they gave a lame broadcasting offer
From what I’ve picked up on, Supersport made a healthy offer for the rights but were denied.
@willa (Comment 22) : @molly (Comment 23) : fight! fight! fight!
Oh geez, didn’t even see Willa’s comment. I read that on a twitter profile of a guy working for SS, so it maaaay have been biased.
@molly (Comment 25) : dont worry, the point stays its a big game, with 10 south africans, 44 world class players, and were not gonna see it, its not as if its valke vs boland
@willa (Comment 26) : I agree, mightily peeved that I don’t get to see it.
