Naqelevuki gets shot at redemption

Stormers wing Sireli Naqelevuki has joined the Fijian Sevens team for the International Rugby Board Series in George this weekend.

Rugby365 reports that Naqelevuki has experienced a horror season with the Cape side after he single-handedly cost Western Province a place in the Currie Cup final in October via a high tackle.

Fiji beat South Africa 17-5 in the quarterfinals last weekend in Dubai but ultimately lost to eventual champions New Zealand, in the Cup final.

However, two Fijian players, Jerry Burotu and Niumaia Cakacaka, suffered injures during the tournament in Dubai which opened the door for Naqelevuki  Instead of flying players over from Fiji, who would have only arrived shortly before the tournament, the Fijians opted to call on Naqelevuki to make the short trip to Outeniqua Park.

Fiji will face Australia, Portugal and Russia in Group B in George.

  • As much as I despise the guy I think it is unfair to blame WP’s semi final loss on his shoulders. :roll:

  • Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
    None but ourselves can free our minds.
    Have no fear for atomic energy,
    ‘Cause none of them can stop the time.
    How long shall they kill our prophets,
    While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
    Some say it’s just a part of it:
    We’ve got to fullfil the book.

    Won’t you help to sing
    This songs of freedom-
    ‘Cause all I ever have:
    Redemption songs;
    Redemption songs;
    Redemption songs.

    Thanks to Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley.

    Now we must get Sir Eli to stay away from the grass in George.

  • Surely the only way to gain redention is to play well consistantly for WP/Stormers and not for Fiji in a 7′s tournie.

  • @McLovin (Comment 4) : Hopefully they fly him straight back out and don’t allow him back in the country again(that’s what I would say if I was a Stormer)

    @wpw (Comment 1) : That’s the problem…he’s lost more than just ONE game for the Stormers
