In a frankly indecipherable interview with ESPN’s Argentinian site, Juan Martin Hernandez has denied that he has signed anything with Racing Metro (or any other club) and insists that his only focus is recovering from back surgery and getting onto the park as soon as possible.
It’s perhaps somewhat predictable – we know that the French clubs tend to be somewhat optimistic when announcing signings – but the enigmatic pivot insists “¡No arreglé nada!”, or “I have arranged nothing!”. He seemed quite taken aback at the suggestion that he would sign a deal with another club while currently unable to fulfil his commitments to the Sharks. According to my crude translation, Hernandez feels that would show a lack of respect to the team he still admires highly.
The other interesting snippet coming out of the interview is what Hernandez has to say about the injury. Apparently, it is something that hampered him even during the Currie Cup and prevented him from raising his game to the required consistency. It seems he realised that he would not be able to deliver the necessary level of Super 14 performance without getting the injury seen to. He anticipates 3 months rehabilitation and seems to have his sights set on rejoining the Sharks towards the end of the Super 14 season.
