Bismarck linked to Toulon

A really spurious rumour that has just emerged is that Bismarck du Plessis is apparently talking to RC Toulon in France.

Bismarck recently signed a two-year extension to his Sharks contract, so I’m not sure how true this could be. Details at this stage are really sketchy, but we’ll update you as soon as we know more.

  • I wonder if they are aware of the Dup Brothers’ ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ policy??

  • Well if you consider Smits skipper and the turn around in the Bok Scrum the moment he moved to hooker – you may well find Bissies looking ahead.

That said its probably garbage and my understanding of the DuP Brothers was they go together.

  • @Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 7) : if it does happen, it will be after this Super 14 anyway. Would leave the Sharks very thin at 2 and 3 given Smit’s age and Herbst’s lack thereof. Will Cooper and Redelinghuys be ready to take the step up in 2011? Big gamble

  • I think its just ‘strond’ from someone’s pie-hole, with our ‘no overseas player will be chosen for the Bokke’ policy, anyone thinking of leaving is an id10t

  • That was just desperate measures, I think. Easier to get a player thats on that continent already and knows the structure than to get a newbie. Also seems like PdV has stressed that too the players as they’re all keen on getting back gere so they can be part of the squad again.

  • According to La Provence Toulon’s entrepreneurial president, Mourad Boudjellal, is at present in conversation with veteran All Black wing Doug Howlett and the powerful Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis.

Howlett is at present playing for Munster and Du Plessis for the Sharks where he may well find competition for the hooking berth, both at the Sharks and for the Springboks, from John Smit, captain of the Sharks and the Springboks.

1st of all. How many players has Boudebal (read – bumball) “entered into talks” with and nothing ever came of it.???????

    2nd
Is Bismarck really stupid enough to put his place in the Bok team (even if it IS behind Smit) at stake?

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 21) : especially since Smit is going to play 3 for the Sharks this year. He also reckons that there’s no way he can be expected to feature in every game. Smit will be there to give leadership to the Sharks SQUAD, but I expect Muller and/or Terblanche to be named TEAM captain for at least 30-40% of the matches.

  • @robdylan (Comment 22) : smit has been given the captaincy reigns because he has a good rapport with the referees, whereas muller pissed them all off last year with his insolence.

  • Is Bismark going to take his toys and play in France, just because the Worlds best captain plays in his position? SWAK! He and his boetie should have gone to the Stormers.

  • @Loosehead (Comment 36) : According to Beeld, they might just head back to Jhb . . .

It would be a setback for the sharks, given our lack of quality fetchers, Bismarck does a lot of work for us in this regard, but come on, if they`re gonna be this much of a disruptive influence on the team, let them go. As I understand we`ll have BJ back for the CC anyway and Burden will step up in Bismarck`s absence . . .
