A few days after the Super 14 kicked off, the genius squad over at Sharks HQ finally got around to announcing a 34-man squad for the competition!
The ironic thing about it is that it’s already out-of-date, with Gerhard Mostert understood to be all-but-certainly ruled out for the entire competition. The former Lion dislocated his shoulder in the tenth minute of Saturday’s game against the Crusaders.
The squad has a very predictable look to it, with a number of youngsters who featured in last year’s Currie Cup making the grade – including Pat Lambie, Wiehahn Herbst and Mike Rhodes. The only other new faces are those of Louis Ludik, Willem Alberts and the unfortunate Mostert.
Here is the squad:

Deon Carstens, Patric Cilliers, Jannie du Plessis, Wiehahn Herbst, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit

happy with the number of youngsters. I hope they will get to play though. Not like Ross Cronje last year.
when did the Sharks play the Crusaders? What week is this? I must be in a warp zone!
“Sharks squad FINALLY accounced” ACCOUNCED??!! Someone has been boozing heavily after the loss.
@Megatron (Comment 2) : @Megatron (Comment 3) : Thanks for your informative comments there mega. What would this site do without you?
I see Ludick is playing in this coming weekend’s warm-up game. We can do with some good news for a change.
The ever media-fearfull-strooli at it again. Paranoid ol’ chop!!
@MysticShark (Comment 5) : where did you see that, dude?
@robdylan (Comment 7) : From Supersport article with heading “Lock crisis for the Sharks”: Former Lions fullback Louis Ludik will play for a Sharks XV in the curtain-raiser to the Cheetahs game and if he comes through it he will leave with the rest of the squad the next morning as they go on tour.
I see Keo is also going with the lock crisis story now…
@wpw (Comment 9) : you wouldn’t think they would miss a “crisis” story
I would put Rhodes on the bench to cover lock this weekend if Muller still needs some time to recover.
@JJR (Comment 11) : yeah, there is not really a crisis, “no lock cover on the bench” uh, that would just be stupid
@Megatron (Comment 2) : hehehe
