Well the Sharks didn’t do as well as expected this morning, how many of the Sharks XV will be using this opportunity to put up their hands and force their way into the Sharks side.

With rather a few players in the team having Super 14 experience this should be all but a doddle for the Sharks XV, but then again stranger things have happened. The 27 – 0 victory over the Cheetahs in a warm-up last weekend counts for nothing this evening as the real competition begins.

Border really have only two “name” players in their team with Solly Tyibilika captaining the side.

Venue: ABSA Stadium Durban
Kick-off: 18:00 SA Time
Referee: Joey Salmans

Sharks XV: 15 Louis Ludik, 14 Mark Richards, 13 Jean Stemmet, 12 Andries Strauss (capt) , 11 Luzuko Vulindlu, 10 Monty Dumond, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Luvuyiso Lusaseni, 7 Lambert Groenewald, 6 Justin Downey, 5 Alistair Hargreaves, 4 Anton Bresler, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Kyle Cooper, 1 Pat Cilliers
Substitutes: 16 Hannes Snyman, 17 Sabz Nhlapo, 18 Mike Rhodes, 19 Skollie Ndlovu, 20 Ross Cronjé, 21 Jerome Pretorius, 22 Chris Jordaan

Border: 15 Gerrit Sprong, 14 Vuyo Mboto, 13 Byron Mcguigan, 12 Chumani Booi, 11 Brad Birkholtz, 10 Thembani Mkokeli, 9 Ntando Kebe, 8 Siyabonga Tshemese, 7 Solomzi Tyibilika (Captain), 6 Dumisani Meslane, 5 Ashley Viviers, 4 Samora Fihlani, 3 Marius Visser, 2 Greg Van Jaarsveld, 1 Lonwabo Mtimka.
Substitutes: 16 Matthew Taljard, 17 Armon Fourie, 18 Ashley Meier, 19 Sokhana Mkona, 20 Billy Dutton, 21 Sinovuyo Nyoka, 22 Charl Kennedy

Special thanks to Sharksrugby.co.za for supplying the Border Bulldogs team information. IF Border Bulldogs had a Website it would have been so much easier.

  • @1:
They will only be our hope for the future if AND WHEN the admin shows faith in them. Faith that already suffered a huge blow with the dumping of Dumont for Goode and Hargo being dumped for Dirk Digler, both who are non-Sharks and on ‘loan-contracts’. And who most probably will not play for the Sharks again.

  • @JustPlainSHARK (Comment 15) :

I agree that we need to show faith in the youth.

    BUT

Dumond is hardly youth (28 this year) and I’m afraid he is just not S14 quality, neither is Goode on today’s showing. Firstly a turnstile tackle and then a clothesline tackle. The question begs so if neither is S14 quality who do you play? I don’t know the answer.

Hargreaves (24 this year) will in all likelyhood be a consistant S14 starter from next year onwards.

I would propose that should we come back from tour with little to nothing to lose that we then blood the youngsters and give them every chance to show why they should start next season. And use them more in the CC.

Centres looking good and tight forwards doing excellent work in the scrums especially.

  • Ludik scores in the corner after another good break from the Sharks XV.

The ball is held up short initially, penalty advantage accrues for slowing it down and then McLeod takes it quickly and spin it wide with a long skip pass to Ludik in the corner.

Dumond does well to convert from wide.

It was an amicable thing. Sometime ago their sports editor asked us to stop posting their content after Dan Retief saw an article of his on our site.

No hard feelings either way. At least we know they read our site.

  • A win at last!!! Does not matter which team as long as it is a win for the Sharks. Perhaps we should have sent these guys overseas? Well done.

  • I would have been at the game but sadly everyone that so “badly” wanted to go with me let me down. Probably just as well seeing as Durbs had some heavy rain last night, not that it would have deterred me, I would still have gone, but not alone all the way into Durban
