Sean Everitt’s Sharks XV will be in action against Free State in the 2010 Vodacom Cup tournament this weekend. The match takes place in Empangeni and kicks off at 15h30 on Saturday afternoon.
The team are very disappointed to have lost to Western Province last weekend but are determined to get their campaign back on the right track with a good performance against Free State. Coach Everitt has been forced into some changes, with Alistair Hargreaves called up to join the Super 14 tour and both Louis Ludik and Luvo Lusaseni ruled out through injury. The coach has been able to call on able replacements, though, with Chris Jordaan (fullback) and Skholiwe Ndlovu (flanker) both boasting Super 14 experience. Jandre Marais, called up to replace Hargreaves in the second row, is a Baby Bok representative and knows fellow lock Anton Bresler well from their days together at under 19 and under 21 level.
There has been a loose forward reshuffle, with Justin Downey moving to blindside and Mike Rhodes taking the number 8 jersey vacated by Lusaseni. Lee Thompson and big Meyer Swanepoel are newcomers to the bench this week. In a somewhat surprising move, Julian Redelinghuys, usually a tighthead prop, takes Hannes Snyman’s place as the reserve hooker.
In one further change, Monty Dumond has recovered from his shoulder injury and replaces Jacques Venter at pivot. The latter drops to the bench.
