Just go do it, Sharks

The Sharks have now reached the stage that, whatever real or imagined problems their may be in the camp, those need to now be put aside. The team has their best chance of a win on tour coming up this weekend and quite simply have to do whatever it takes to secure that result.

I mean no disrespect to the Highlanders and their fans here, but the reality is, the Sharks should not be in any danger of losing this game. They’ve won regularly in Dunedin over the past few years and boast a team that, on paper at least, looks 15 points or more better than the best that the Highlanders can field. That said, the Sharks have conspired to lose to far worse teams already this year and one cannot make any sort of bold predictions based on the names or experience in the squad this year.

All of that speculation and other nonsense simply has to come to an end now, though. The Sharks are a strong team with a proud rugby tradition. They have World Cup winners aplenty in the squad and countless others with huge experience at Super 14 and Currie Cup level as well. They have shown that there is not much wrong with their defensive game and the discipline was markedly improved against the Brumbies as well. The forwards can make good ground with ball in hand and Andy Goode has proved himself a dangerous goalkicker from anywhere in the opposition half of the field. In short, the ingredients are all there – they just need to be put together in order to eke out a win.

This is not the game to make massive changes in either personnel or playing style. The Sharks need to simply focus on what they do well and cut out the errors that have marred their game over the first five rounds. The ultimate and absolute goal here has to be a victory – and victory by any margin – because the road to recovery is a long one but always has to start with a single step. Securing that result and remembering how it feels to win a game is what the Sharks need now. That, at least, will give them something on which they can build next week.

Come on Sharks, do us proud! B&WNEM!

  • Did anyone see this headline? “Door opens for Lambie” I was at the Gym this morning and saw it on the news. Any idea what that is all about?

  • This was posted on the East Coast Radio website, just thought I would share it with all of you.
The Sharks have lost Five out of Five games. So one frustrated person sent us this e-mail with his view point. Take a look:

    Hi Peter,

Just a thought for the Sharks bad showing 2010.

Having read John Smit’s book, Rudolf Straeuli did not exactly cover himself in glory over “Kamp Staaldraad” and the 2003 World Cup – but now he works for the Sharks, one of his portfolio’s been to recruit new players.

His success in obtaining a flyhalf speaks for its self.

The last time the Sharks performed this badly Kevin Putt and Hugh Reese Edwards were the coach and assistant coach, both left and Dick Muir and John Plumbtree took over and we were once again a great team.

Hugh Reese Edwards is once again the assistant coach but has not been taken on Tour, why?

Question is who is putting Straeuli and Reese Edwards into these positions?

Answer can only be the Big Boys at Head Office.

Get rid of the whole of the Top Ranking Board, Rudolf Straeuli and Hugh Reese Edwards, keep John Plumbtree, employ Jake White as an advisor if possible and lets go forward again.

    Sharks Fan.

  • @dawnwallenkamp (Comment 4) : This guy has my support. Trouble is . .. would Jake ” Winning Ways” be willing to work alongside Plum?
But Hugh Reece Edwards needs to go. When his name popped up on this site, out of nowhere in the beginning of the season most of us including myself thought back to the years when we finished last in the Super 14.
Now it seems those thoughts were perfectly justified.

  • Very good idea to start Lambie with Stefan there to assist. At last something new. Grant10 will have a field day with Smit being benched, but one thing I have noticed it that the Dup players play better when they start together.

  • Looks a difficult assignment for Lambie……does pose a great match up with Robbie Robinson looking to show him up ! Good on the Sharks for shaking ….if only a bit.

The problems are in the backs !

  • @Letgo (Comment 1) : Well just read on keo someone has announced the Sharks team. Unless that is his preference for the team to start. Not really sure.

Has Lambie at 15 and Stefan at 14. Deyesel at 7 – Alberts on the bench. Smit on the bench. Front row. Carstens, Bissie, Brother. Not really sure if this is the correct team to start. Just read it there from a blogger.

  • Okay just went back to check. Front row is the same as Fattmann says. Beast, Bissie, Brother.

Smit on the bench. Probably needs a rest has played in all the games so far.

Still no room for Mvovo  Though Stefan will do well on the wing. Still would like to see Mvovo get a chance.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 14) : Have to give our captain a rest sometime. Remember McCaw was rested for the first two and half games. We have to look after John really.

I would have played Deysel at 6 and Alberts 7 and Kanko at 8. Even Deysel 6 – Kanko 7 – Alberts 8.

Think this will be another tough game for our team.

    GO SHARKS.

I think Odwa is injured, dont see him on the bench, so presume the change was forced. Very chuffed for Lambie but its going to be a baptism of note for him. I think he will be fine.
