Wikus on his way

Former Springbok flanker Wikus van Heerden will be playing for the Lions for the rest of the Super 14

Saracens agreed to the request from the Lions and Wikus has been released from his Saracens with immediate effect.

The Lions hope that van Heerdens presence will add some much needed grunt and order to a Lions team getting pumped on a weekly basis by everyone and their alcoholic uncle with a limp.

Saracens DOR thanked Van Heerden for his many outstanding appearances for the club and wished him and his family well

  • This is a huge positive for the lions! They lack genuine class in their team and wickus is the real deal

  • He must have signed the contract before the S14 kicked off.

  • Let’s hope we can build up enough of a buffer to still be above them in the log by the time we play them. ;-)

  • We first believed Dick was the man to change the Lions team around, the Lions then convinced us ‘King’ Carlos will be the man…..2 cricket scores later and we’re expected to believe Wickus will change their fortunes around?

Make no mistake, Muir certainly changed the way they look, now he just needs decent personnel and his team will fire.

  • surely Wickus will step in as captain of the side? Maybe Baywatch would be more effective if he doesn`t have to worry about captaincy issues?

    Could turn them around.

Oh yeah, we still have to face them to avoid the SA wooden spoon and that Southern King Spear Merger

And drop Earl Rose…negative influence on the team.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 16) :

    Agreed on both those thoughts,

Muir is doing the right things though, he is bringing familiar GOOD faces back, I will not be at all surprised to see quite an influx to the Lions next season. Quite a few of these overseas players who want to come back will IMO end up there.

What better chance of gametime could they ask for?

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 17) : They’ll definitely walk straight into the team, but not many players are keen to move to Jo’burg and drive to coke park everyday…it will take some tricky negotiating to convince any big guns to move there.

They’ll have to throw a lot of money at them.

  • i’d love to go back to the blogs in the early 2000s. when the blue bulls under heyneke meyer weree the whipping boys of super rugby & they ended up finishing the season having lost all their games. to think that Dick is in the same predicament (i’m in no way suggesting that Dick will pull of a rebuilding job like HM)…good luck Dick.

The Lions results this year mean squat, next year they will mean a lot more and in 2012 Dick will be measured. I think, and hope, he will make the grade with flying colours.
