Johann Muller appears to have broken a finger and must thus be unlikely to feature against the Hurricanes.
The source of this story is John Smit’s highly informative Twitter stream. According to the captain, Muller spent the night in hospital after the game.
Smit also posted this picture, in which the lanky lock’s mangled digit can clearly be seen. It looks like the ring finger on his right hand, so at least wife Mariska won’t have to worry about him being unable to wear his wedding band. Then again, looking at his other hand, maybe she does!
Thanks to Barney for keeping us informed via these snippets and here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Joe. One of Alistair Hargreaves or Wilhelm Steenkamp will surely now come into the picture to start against the Hurricanes.

Well it can’t be hurting that bad if you look at the smile on his face…Oh Yes….the smile’s because we WON!
We have Hargreaves but think maybe we should start with Steenkamp if Muller can not play.
@Puma (Comment 2) : na. I back my boy hargo all the way
Rob, I also like Hargreaves, just maybe here we need a hard oke. Think Steenkamp is. Well we have the back up there so not too worried.
Now let us hope no other injuries this week in training. Canes going to come at us with everything. They are hurting like we are with all their losses in SA. Now who do they have when they return home?………hahaha…. Their 4th Saffa team in a row. So they wont be too pleased. Sharks need to up their game a tad bit more and we could pull of a win here again.
Must start with Lambie again too. MUST that younster is going to be a great for sure. Reminded me a bit of young Fransie at that age. FEARLESS.
Stefan can stay on the win.
When will they ever give Mvovo a chance? Well maybe not against the Canes but they need to give him a game sometime.
@Puma (Comment 4) : sorry typos there. I make many
so ignore
younster = youngster
win = wing
@Puma (Comment 4) : i was saying that to in my comment after the game lot of spirit and given the chance a 2nd steyn go lambie you’re great
@Puma (Comment 4) :
I finally watched the game while I was fully awake and I have to say I am completely impressed with Lambie. I am wondering if perhaps that spark that he’s brought is just what the team needed to start racking up the wins.
@Milissa (Comment 7) : let’s hope so… let’s also hope he’s not the last youngster to be given a proper chance this season
must say, I reckon the beard suits Joe…
Hmmmm seems we may be without Goode as well.
Meanwhile, the Sharks are still unsure whether England flyhalf Andy Goode will play for them for the rest of the Super 14.
After their match against the Hurricanes this weekend, they return from a five-match Australasian tour, and there are still problems with Goode’s work permit.
“We are busy trying to sort that out,” Sharks commercial manager Rudolf Straeuli confirmed.
Clever move by the Sharks to have him play OUTSIDE SA. No need for a work permit.
ouch but that finger looks soar
poor guy
till later
@robdylan (Comment 3) : how about this for a thought : play alberts at lock ..use kanko as roving lineout option .. we will need all the bulk we can muster against the hurricanes .. there some big players in their squad ..then we can play deysel ,kanko and alberts at the same time
@robdylan (Comment 3) : anything about the dup bros on smitties twitter postings
.. lets keep the duppies and send the beast packing
.. not being serious ..want both the dups ,smit and the (tamed
) beast to stay at the sharks ..
