Sharksworld can reveal that Waylon Murray is set to play in the unfamiliar inside centre position for the Sharks XV on Saturday, as Sean Everitt’s team look to beat Griquas and advance to the Vodacom Cup semi-finals.
The elevation of Mike Rhodes to the Sharks bench, along with a number of injuries sustained against the Pampas XV have forced a reshuffle in the Sharks XV ranks. The tight five of Pat Cilliers, Kyle Cooper, Wiehahn Herbst, Anton Bresler and Jandre Marais remains unchanged, however, while Justin Downey moves from number 8 to blindside flank in place of Rhodes. Luvo Lusaseni comes in at the back of the scrum, with Skholiwe Ndlovu continuing on the open side.
Monty Dumond moves back to flyhalf, after covering at fullback last week, meaning an opportunity in the last line of defence for regular winger Mark Richards An injury to centre Trompie Pretorius has necessitated the switch inside for Murray and with Sbu Sithole also crocked, a new pair of wingers will take the field in Luzuko Vulindlu and Rosco Speckman, with Arno van Zyl on the bench. Both Speckman and van Zyl played for the Sharks under 21s last year and while van Zyl made the Sharks XV bench last week, Speckman put in a solid performance for College Rovers at club level and has won selection based on that.
Sharks XV side:
15 Mark Richards, 14 Luzuko Vulindlu, 13 Jean Stemmet, 12 Waylon Murray, 11 Rosco Speckman, 10 Monty Dumond, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Luvuyiso Lusaseni, 7 Justin Downey, 6 Skholiwe Ndlovu, 5 Anton Bresler, 4 Jan-Andre Marais, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Kyle Cooper, 1 Patric Cilliers (capt)
16 Dale Chadwick, 17 Julian Redelinghuys, 18 Lee Thompson, 19 Lambert Groenewald, 20 Ross Cronje, 21 Jacques Venter, 22 Arno van Zyl

bugger me, but we’re only running short of backs in Sharks country. I honestly have no idea whose going to be in that 22 jersey…
@robdylan (Comment 1) : We seriously need a director of backline rugby at the Sharks, way too many former forwards running the show.
Why do they keep kocking poor Murray around, how’s he ever gonna regain his form.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 2) : I’ve heard he’s been pretty good on the wing. Reckon 12 is gonna be something of a disaster, though
surely its Arno thats injured and not Sbu. I dont think Arno plays wing or perhaps I am wrong?
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Can’t be worse than JP Pietersen at the moment – although, all he needs is time and he’ll be back to top form. Something that Plumtree should afford to Murray, specifically in his specialist position.
@robdylan (Comment 3) :
I dunno hey. I would like to think he has the body for a great 12. He will be quite effective if he gets decent ball, he is not that easy to bring down.
Murray is gonna crashball all day, I reckon is gonna work in this game.
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 7) :
Griquas are the defending champs so it mightn’t be that easy but he WILL be crashballing too.
I’m glad this game is being shown on TV after the Sharks game. better than nothing.
Talking about crashing and seeing Reinier(Methos) in the Sharksworld fans block check his boet out http://rugbydump.blogspot.com/2010/04/mouritz-botha-big-hit-on-jordan-turner.html
@provincejoulekkading (Comment 9) :
SON OF A B%^&& That is an AWESOME TACKLE
Howzit okes.
My wish list for the weekend.
1. Stormers 5-pointer and deny Reds any.
2. Saders 4-pointer against Force.
3. Highlanders deny Canes a win
4. Brumbies over the Tahs with neither getting a BP
5. Sharks 5 pointer and deny Blues
6. Bulls 5 pointer against Lions
The log will then look something like:
1. Bulls 39
2. Crusaders 38
3. Stormers 38
4. Reds 30
5. Brumbies 30
6. Waratahs 29
7. Sharks 26
8. Hurricanes 24
@klempie (Comment 11) :
I can live with that.
Will screw up my Superbru though.
@klempie (Comment 11) :
My wish list for the weekend.
1. Stormers 5-pointer and deny Reds any (Beat them by a 100+)
.
2. Wors 4-pointer against Saders. Go Wors!
3. Highlanders deny Canes a win
4. Brumbies over the Tahs with neither getting a BP
5. Sharks 5 pointer and deny Blues
6. Bulls 5 pointer against Lions
7. A xmas miracle to happen and Cheetahs to win.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 12) :
We just need to hope that WHEN the Chiefs score the 5 log point victory over the Cheetahs that they do not win by more than 16 or else they will overtake us on PD.
So add that to your list.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 14) : sorry not more than 16. that should read “by 16 more then we beat the blues”
@klempie (Comment 11) :
@McLovin (Comment 13) :
Either of you know the answer?
I was just going through some background info and yesterday one of the top 10 search engine phrases that found us was “46 16 2 2?
The article that it found was “Sias Ebersohn a shark?” I have no concern or question marks there.
But can ANYONE tell me why someone and in this case more than just ONE person would have done a google search for “46 16 2 2?
WTF???????????????? would you be looking for with that combination of numbers?????
@KSA Shark © (Comment 16) : Weirdos.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 12) : @McLovin (Comment 13) :
We have to let the top three run away with it if we want a chance of sneaking in. We need them to kick 4-8 above us down the ladder.
Imagine if the log finishes:
1. Stormers/Bulls
2. Crusaders
4. Sharks
If that we were to sneak in under this scenario we would actually have a good chance of winning the whole thing cos the Stormers and Bulls will be smashing each other to bits in the last week of the comp to try and get home semi-final/final advantage. This will soften whoever wins up for us to face in the first semi. If we win that, then IF whoever finishes 3rd will have to fly to Christchurch is able to beat the Saders, they will have to fly ALLLL the way back to SA to face us.
979 people on SB picked the Cheetahs to win.
Bloem must be growing.
@McLovin (Comment 19) : Weirdos!!!!!!!!!
@klempie (Comment 18) :
Except by that reckoning the Saders will be 3rd so they will have to come to SA to play who ever is second or of the Bulls Stomers clash?
@KSA Shark © (Comment 21) : Sorry. What I meant was something like
1. Stormers/Bulls
2. Saders
3. Bulls/Stormers
4. Sharks
@KSA Shark © (Comment 21) : @klempie (Comment 22) :
Here’s how it will end.
1. Stormers
2. Bulls
3. Loser no.1
4. Loser no.2
There is no way the Sharkies will make the semis. Sorry guys but it too tough an ask for you to win ALL your matches and then hope other teams do you favours.
Not gonna happen imho.
@wpw (Comment 24) :
Agreed.
But we can still gain a lot from experimenting and also showing the character to not give up – 2010 can be a ramping up year.
Oh, and unless they are considering a permanent shift for him, they are continuing to screw this lad around.
Good luck Waylon!
I don’t believe that Waylon has the hands for the no 12 position.
Morning morning week-end is here and its Rugby time
eeeeeaaaahhhh
The thing is Waylon is more talented than Dries and Swannie. If he can just run straight dammit!!
@wpw (Comment 30) : I agree that he’s more talented than Swanepoel and Strauss – he had a cracker of a season 3/4 years ago and then just kind off melted away, since then he looks to have lost some pace, which in my view makes the move to inside centre ideal – he can do the straightening thing before offloading to someone quicker on his outside, he’s a strong guy it should suite him well – I guess we’ll have to see.
@lovebubble (Comment 4) : you are right and I was wrong.
It’s actually Zuks who’s starting at 14 and Arno on the bench in 22.
Cheetahs draws chiefs…Crusaders against force, who says fairy tales can’t happen. C’mon Lions…C’mon Highlanders.
@Letgo (Comment 33) :
What is the inside story on murray. what happ in jhb?
