Vodacom Bulls winger John Mametsa will replace Francois Hougaard in Saturday’s line-up in the home side’s Super 14 clash against the Lions.

The Bulls’ official website reports that Hougaard injured a hamstring during the captain’s run on Friday.

It is the second time this year for Mametsa to slot in for Hougaard at short notice.

He replaced him on match day against the Vodacom Cheetahs in the opening game of the competition.

He also scored a try when the Vodacom Bulls and Lions last met in a pre-season warm-up game in Polokwane.

Mametsa was due to play for the Vodacom Blue Bulls in the quarter-finals of the Vodacom Cup against Western Province earlier on Saturday. His place will be taken by Deon Helberg, who in turn will be replaced by Ernst Dinkelman on the reserves bench.

The Bulls teams to play tomorrow now reads:
Vodacom Bulls (against Lions 15h00): Zane Kirchner, Gerhard van den Heever, Jaco Pretorius, Wynand Olivier, John Mametsa, Morné Steyn, Heini Adams, Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Derick Kuün, Victor Matfield (Capt), Danie Rossouw, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha, Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Replacements: Bandise Maku, Bees Roux, Flip van der Merwe, Deon Stegmann, Fourie du Preez, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Pedrie Wannenburg.

  • The VC side looks good enough to run over the Western province VC side as well.
