Apart from the still-undefeated Blues Bulls, the North Sections challenge in the 2010 Vodacom Cup folded like a house of cards this weekend, with South section teams winning three of the four quarter-finals.
Free State were the only side to overturn the odds away from home as they defeated the Lions on Friday night, to set up a semi-final against Loffie Eloff’s Boland, who saw off the Leopards in Wellington on Saturday. In the other two quarter-finals, the home teams triumphed, with the Blue Bulls winning an arm wrestle against Western Province and the Sharks XV running up a big lead against Griquas, before falling asleep, just as they have done in virtually every other game this season.
It’s the semi-final involving those two teams, though, that will really capture the imagination and a truly freaky coincidence will see them lock horns on exactly the same day – and at the same venue – that their respective Super 14 franchise teams are due to play. When it comes to a local derby, the Bulls against the Sharks is probably the pick of them. Having two matches involving these sides on one day is just gravy and I’m sure all the Sharks fans in that neck of the woods will be heading down to Loftus a few hours early to shout for the boys in white and black.

Oh my….
I will not say anything about the Bulls or Sharks this week
does anybody know what time is a kick off?
@rekinek (Comment 2) : should be around 4-5pm, as the super 14 game starts at 7pm. i`m not so sure that the vc game will be played on loftus, as the vc game this past weekend was played on the B-field to safe the new grass on the a field.
Rekinek – u got tickets for the game??
@VanWilder (Comment 3) : spoke with your guy and should have them this week
. was going to let you know once it is in my hand (literally
)
Good luck to both Shark teams. Should be plenty Sharks supporters at the game.
For the S14 this is a real biggie, Sharks against Bulls. Going to be a tough battle.
If we go by the numbers : Sharks managed a 2 or 3 point win over
Lions, Lions went down against the bulls by 40 . . . Does this mean the Bulls should run out comfortable winners by around 35 this weekend?
Then again, we managed wins over the Reds and Blues . . . but that was in Dbn . . .
I guess if it was this easy to make a prediction I`d be top of the log in SB !
@rekinek (Comment 4) : also getting mine tommorrow… looking forward to the game. somehow knowing that we`ve got nothing to lose, makes me alot less nervous…
anyone else going??
@Original Pierre (Comment 6) : its going to be close. somehow i just get the feeling that we could nip this one. we should just try and clamp down fourie du preez. anyone else saw the difference when he came on.
Sharks by 6.
@VanWilder (Comment 8) : Bootsie will be all over him like a nasty rash all afternoon
well me will go on SB with the sharks by 2 if we are lucking
Cheers all
