The brutally physical game against the Blues would appear to have taken its toll on the Sharks team, with a number of players nursing bumps and bruises as the Bulls game looms.
Most serious of these is JP Pietersen, who appears to have a cartilage tear in his knee. As reported yesterday, the Bok winger will definitely not make the Bulls clash and is probably highly doubtful for the remaining games against the Stormers and Western Force as well. Other key backs to be in doubt at this stage are Riaan Swanepoel and (alarmingly) Ruan Pienaar, although it is hoped that both will be fit enough to play at Loftus.
Up front, things look a little better with only WIllem Alberts in a bit of pain – also something that should hopefully blow over in time for him to take his place on Saturday. Queering the pitch somewhat, though, is the news that both Keegan Daniel and Ryan Kankowski are likely to come back into the selection frame this weekend. Despite sensationalist rubbish in all the usual places about Kankowski being out for the rest of the season, Sharksworld had it on good authority that he’d only be out for 3-4 weeks and it looks like we were spot on.
Assuming Alberts is passed fit, though, it would take a brave man to drop him for Kankowski on current form.Tweet
