Sharks in good shape for Bulls clash

Ruan Pienaar, Willem Alberts and Riaan Swanepoel have all been passed fit to take their places int he Sharks starting 15 to face the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus on Saturday. JP Pietersen is the only injury casualty from last week’s game against the Blues.

Alberts’ availability has allowed John Plumtree to name an unchanged pack for the third week in a row, while the return of Keegan Daniel to the bench means that Mike Rhodes drops out of the match 22. Beast Mtawarira, Craig Burden and Alistair Hargreaves complete the reserve forward contingent and in concert with the livewire Daniel, should give the coach plenty of attacking options to introduce in the second half.

The only changes to the back division see Swanepoel start at inside centre in place of Andries Strauss and Lwazi Mvovo start his first Super Rugby game at left wing, in for the injured Pietersen. Strauss moves to the bench, while there’s a return to the squad for Luzuko Vulindlu, named in the 22 jersey.

  • Can’t wait to see our front row demolish the Bull’s. Hopefully then we can expect to see a accurate representation of the best players per position in all the various media sides. Haaven’t seen a single scrum get the better of our’s since JS’s move and yet no mention is made of this.

Gurthro certainly is not better than Barney, but there again all the reporters have a distinct blue biase, whether for the Bulls or Stormers makes no difference. Certainly our journo’s lack objectivity. On present form can one really say Spies and any others are better than Alberts?????????????????

  • @rekinek (Comment 12) : I just wish that Kanko had of had the same opportunities that Spies had…………. Sadly don’t think that will ever happen.

Spies might be a monster but would prefer an intelligent player who can run into space and has good feet than a “monster” who believes it is better to go through a wall????????

And must also add that am really chuffed to see Keegan back. Just too add for info purposes Keegan was voted IRB U21 player of the year award, ahead of donkrag Spies etc etc etc..(Can’t remenber the year-sorry)

  • @Bayshark (Comment 13) : spies and kanko are 2 different players IMO. But Alberts is more like Spies – the bashing type, perhaps not as quick as him.

I must say – Alberts’ been probably one of the better purchases of late.

  • @rugbypedia (Comment 3) : I thought that too at first, but should it really be all that daunting? Where do they beat us?

9.Pienaar is on a par with du Preez.
10.Goode is getting better and Steyn’s going through a bit of a slump, and he’s not a Dan Carter at the best of times, contrary to SA’s current love affair with his kicking boots.
11.I’d rather have a proper wing in Mvovo, than Hougaard out of position.
12.Here’s the only place they really win – Olivier and Swanepoel are similar players, but Wynand’s got the experience.
13.Both players are out of position; is JLP a better player than Terblanche?
14.Ndungane is a reliable, established player with test experience – van den Heever is promising, but it’s pretty even.
15.The reverse of the situation at 14. Promising young upstart vs established and reliable.

Man for man, it’s pretty even. As a unit, they have had more time to gel, but Sharks v Bulls matches tend not to be about chemistry, but passion. I reckon we’ll take it. Sharks by 4.

When the Sharks made the final people started sending her matches saying that they would be coming late to her wedding. She eventually caved in and hired a big screen to show the game at the reception.

Seriously, who doesn’t check the rugby calendar before deciding on a wedding date ;-)

Our worst man on man comparison has to be in the locks, and we have to rely on Bakkies being off form and unfit so we can grab the advantage there as well.

  • To me this is the weekend of the year. Sharks vs Bulls. Stormers vs Crusaders. Hurricanes vs Chiefs. Brumbies vs Reds. Sharks XV vs Bulls XV.

What a pleasure!!

  • I guess I could ask every one of the 1000 or so registered users how old they are, but I really have neither the time nor the energy :)

my completely non-scientific random-sample-based gut feel is that the average age around here is somewhere near 35

  • @rekinek (Comment 79) : not to be unkind, but with such a small sample size, a value that is way outside of the norm is probably not statistically significant and would skew the results disproportionately :)

  • Good luck Sharks. Should be a cracker.

Pleased to see Zuks on the bench and Swannie to start.

Thought that Kanko might be on the bench what happened? Is he not over that thumb injury yet?

  • @robdylan (Comment 80) : the research is still in its early days, the funding not yet approved, the data collection techniques yet to be established, policy decision whether to ask questions openly or whether to try to get it out of samples through scheming… be patient ..

  • Hi all, just saw on twitter that BJ Botha will not be joining up with the Stormers, but he did mention that he would like to play S14 again. Come on Sharks, get in there! I don’t care how many young props we have, BJ is a great asset that we need back!
