Miraculous recoveries on the cards

The Sharks may just be boosted by the availability of two players, in particular, who make a huge difference to their prospects.

Earlier this week, it was reported that both Willem Alberts and Jean Deysel were in doubt for this weekend’s match against the Stormers. According to an interview with Johann Muller (admittedly on Keo, so take it with a pinch of salt), though, the pair may well be fit to play this weekend after all. Sharksworld has also had some independent confirmation that both players participated fully in practice on Tuesday.

Apart from Johann Muller (broken arm) and Bismarck du Plessis (neck) who we already know are out, that leaves John Smit as the only one in any doubt for this weekend’s game, although he too is expected to recover, if the slew of articles based on his last two tweets are anything to go by!

More as we get it, as always.

  • Rob do you prescribe to the fact that some people say sharks should give game to stormers on saturday in the greater intrest of sa rugby,by experimenting as some say we would be doing just that.Seasontickets cost a fortune so we want to see big names at all games if possible, whats your take?btw how many more comment till my next star??

  • OK I have come up with some theory, and it might actualy work….
Include Juan Deysel on the wing, please he will be the next Lomo.
Also remember that Lomo also started his career in the no 6 and 7 jearsy.

  • A game should never just be handed to any team, even if it would be better in the larger scheme of things for the SA teams. If the Stormers are at the top and they want to stay there they have to earn it by winning fair and square like they have all season. If they can’t beat the Sharks’ full strength team, then maybe they don’t deserve that second spot on the log. Should the “experimenting” be based purely on account of injuries, I can live with it, as long as fully fit Ruan Pienaar or Stefan Terreblanche don’t get “expreimented” ;-) with, without cause.

  • Well this sounds like a bit of good news. Now if John can start too maybe we just might have a game to watch. Though if John is on anti-inflammatories maybe he wont start as it will make bruising far worse while on the medication, unless he comes off it by Thursday.

We missed Bissy in the loose on Saturday though we really miss something with him out. Although never thought I would say that as he gives away so many penalties. Like John at LH with Bissy at hooker and JdP at TH. Our scrum was looking really good then. Now if John does start this Saturday, Plum please just keep him at hooker for the whole game and don’t shift him to TH.

Can Zuks start ahead of Stefan too?

  • Reading Sharksrugby, seem like Deysel and Alberts will start. See that John did have pain in his hand after he hurt his neck. That could have been neck spasm pushing on the disc to the nerve, you never get pain in the hand unless the disc is touching a nerve. Now after the scan and he is fine with the neck maybe he may play too. I would rest John though with that neck not sure if it is the right thing for him to play this week. Look at the bigger picture and let him be ready for the French game.

  • @Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 15) : Well it seems it will be. Don’t think we will win this one, unless we had a full strength side. Then maybe we could.

@FireTheLooser (Comment 14) : John at LH is fine too just not at TH this week. That is even if he starts.

Leave Ruan at sh the whole game. Don’t mess with changing him to FH. Cant Kockott play FH? Heard he has played there a few times, we should experiment with him there maybe if that is the case.

  • As much as I want the Sharks to beat the Stormers, rugby is not what it used to be, there are payoffs and there are bets and teams do lose purposefully for the sake of keeping a SA team on the top of the log. A very unfortunate thing we just have to accept

  • @dawnwallenkamp (Comment 20) : I was worried about teams throwing games in the past but I`m not worried about it at all this week.
If the Stormers play to their potential they wouldn`t have a problem with the Sharks, even in Durban.
If we can`t take care of the lowly Cheetahs in Dbn, how do we expect to compete with the form sides?

However I do think Stormers have got some important decisions to make this week. Do they rest their important players so everyone would be fresh for that all important final clash? Do they select their best side and go for the bonus point against the Sharks, thereby possibly securing a home semi final?

    Seems they`ll definately rest Habana.
I wouldn`t risk Jaque Fourie for more than one half either, but that`s just me.

  • @rekinek (Comment 25) : Yeah I think Habana`s got some rib problem that`s why he won`t be selected.

Stormers have a problem cause a guy like Bekker played right through the super 14. If he picks up an injury now I`m afraid the fat lady will start clearing her throat!

  • @Original Pierre (Comment 26) : Look at the Sharks injuries … I think we’ve levelled the playing field for them

but seriously, that could be a blow for Stormers, however I am a strong believer that it is a team that must win and not a single player and when you reverse it – the loss of any player should not be catastrophical.

I do realise that in practice it is not exactly like that and that there are better and worse players but one person will never really win you a game – metthinks.

  • @dawnwallenkamp (Comment 20) : Well I have never heard of anything like that. If that was the case a team just tossing a game for money, I would not support any team again.

I think the Sharks have just too much pride in doing that. Look how we played against the Bulls, sure we lost but our players put their bodies on the line there. So don’t agree with what you have said there. Well not in the saffa teams. We just want to kill each other in a derby.

  • @rekinek (Comment 22) : Maybe still getting over the injuries that now seem not as serious as they were. Rest sometimes is better than over training.

Just wish we had our full strength team. Adding Deysel and Alberts is great but we need John and Bissy too. Probably JPP even though he was out of form his defence was still very good. Then with Mvovo on the other wing would have added more to our team. Drop Seftan too for Zuks. Stefan adds nothing now.
