The Sharks have named their side to face the Western Force in Durban on Friday night. The occasion marks the 50th Super rugby caps for loosehead prop Beast Mtawarira and scrumhalf Rory Kockott.

As predicted, the team looks very similar to the one that downed the Stormers last Saturday, with flanker Willem Alberts the only casualty. Jean Deysel moves over to the blind side of the scrum, handing the number 6 jersey to Jacques Botes, who moves up from the bench. The backline remains unchanged, with Ruan Pienaar again at flyhalf.

A change to the bench composition sees an extra back in the form of scrumhalf Charl McLeod join the squad. Keegan Daniel will be the only loose forward reserve.

Sharks Team:

15 Pat Lambie, 14 Odwa Ndungane, 13 Stef Terblanche, 12 Riaan Swanepeol, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Ruan Pienaar, 9 Rory Kockott, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Alistair Hargreaves, 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 John Smit (capt), 1 Beast Mtawarira
16 Craig Burden, 17 Pat Cilliers, 18 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19 Keegan Daniel, 20 Charl McLeod, 21 Andy Goode, 22 Andries Strauss

  • Good team…I hope we see some attacking rugby. I hope McLeod gets a run. I Hope it’s not Jacques last game. I hope the Sharks win with four tries at least and a huge margin.

  • is it me or do the sharks suddenly look shallow on the lock front. when wilhelm goes back we have mostert and alberts as backup. not to good. and what if botes leaves? at least rob will get his wish that downey and rhodes are in the team.

  • Good side. Would have been nice to put a young center like Stemmet on the bench rather than Andries. The sharks already know what they have in Andries, whereas we desperately need something new in the middle.. Congrats to Rory and Beast, may they have at least 50 more.
