After watching the Stormers smash the Tahs back to Aus last week, i decided at least some effort should be made to try and make the final in Soweto. That was until we tried to procure tickets.
Being the ordinary bloke i am – i had to work so standing in queue in Checkers this morning was out of the question and given the fact that for the semi’s the computicket website went down faster than a lady of the night – i was fairly certain i was going to fail in my quest. Needless to say i won’t be going to Orlando staduim this week. As predicted the website would load but as soon as you made an attempt to purchase you were politely told that the server was under strain and i should try later. Try later for the paltry 3500 tickets they made available to the public.
Now i can understand the Bulls have suites and season ticket holders to satisfy – i would expect the same from my Union. But when i read this morning about how the tickets where split up – i was angry – its the only polite way to put it without Rob removing my posting rights.
Orlando can hold 36 500 people. The breakdown is as follows 14 000 to seasonal ticket holders, 10 000 to box holders, 1 000 to the Stormers rugby union, 3 000 to the Blue Bulls rugby union and 5 300 to rugby officials including team management, referees, sponsors, suppliers and SA Rugby, according to Beeld Newspaper.
It seemed fair until i read the final number 5300 tickets to SA rugby and its cronies. Sure sponsors deserve their share of the pie – they pay for it. Sure team management want their families there on the day. As to suppliers – well i guess if you want free booze in your corporate suite – i guess you have to keep them smiling. Of those 5300 tickets – how many are going to a bunch of fat cat administrators who do more harm to our game than good. Far too many in my opinion.
As per usual SARU has put itself at the top of the pile ahead of the ordinary fan.
They should be ashamed.

Yeah for all the hype of the game being in Soweto and no ordinary fan can get a ticket, let alone Soweto residents who I do not think has many Computicket outlets anywhere close this is a sham. Much like all things SA RUgby related.
Wow, is today the official “bitch and moan” day???
Okay sorry, I get that you’re upset, but every comment I’ve read today was someone moaning about something.
The Sharks needs to win something quickly or send us some good news even quicker otherwise this site won’t be my favorite site for long.
I am just disappointed – as i was trying to get to the game – only to be denied becasue there were so few tickets.
But i get your point.
What the bet Harold Festering Verster and Manie Redneck Reyneke are included in that 5300.
@Oubaas2009 (Comment 4) : Of course along with wives, mistresses, Markies and every other hanger on they could find.
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 3) : Hey, if I hear anything about some tickets floating around, I’ll let you know. My cousin has a couple of friends with season tickets for Loftus. (Not that I know how he could call them friends, but that’s an issue for another day.)
@Letgo (Comment 6) :
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 5) : Ah, fork. Markies, now you just ruined my day. If they pan into Harold, Manie and Markies et al on the telly, I may just vom my billies and Windhoek out. Ag sis man.
stop whinging. this happens every final. just cause the stormers are finally in it doesn’t make a difference. i have a mate in durban that got tickets and he doesn’t support either team, so if you really wanted tickets you would have made a plan.
@try time (Comment 9) : Your mate is probably ‘Dolf.
@try time (Comment 9) : Well aside from not getting tickets – which is disappointing – it was more about that the fatcats get tickets above the ordinary fan. THat pisses me off more than not getting tickets – and trust me i tried everything to no avail.
so i will whine all i want.
As usual the fans have no say, imagine we had a say into contracting players
Anyway, SA Rugby and friends having more tickets available to them than the die in the wool supporters of BOTH unions combined is just not on and borders on thieving – I bet you not a cent will be paid for those 5300 tickets by the person plonking theirfat ass on the seats and probably also only having a mild interest in the game in most cases.
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 7) : i was there last weekend for the semi`s, what a nightmare, the traffic i mean. the nedbank cup final was on at soccer city at 3pm and the rugby at 5pm. we arrived at the queue to nasrec at about 2pm, and only went in at around 4h30. luckily got a bus at 4h45 and missed 2 minutes of the game. (would have been on time, but the misses had to pee) alot of people only arrived at half time. its not that i didnt arrive on time, its the planning that was up to shit. besides that, it was a GREAT experience. REALLY! what a nice stadium! if u manage to get final tickets, pay whatever u can to go… tip, if youve got R1000 per ticket, u could try bid or buy
And what’s the bet there will be empty seats on Saturday even after the tickets that the season ticket holders don’t buy become available on Thursday.
@VanWilder (Comment 14) : Too rish for my blodd considering we need to fly up etc – All those tickets on sale for those prices are coming from where? Sponsors, Suppliers etc
Sucks for the fans.
@VanWilder (Comment 14) : ANd yea i am bummed – was seriously keen to get up there this weekend – all based around being able to get tickets.
@VanWilder (Comment 14) : Spoken with a guy who took a different route, longer and getting to the stadium from the other side (granted he knows soweto). Took him like 40mins to get there and no traffic
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 17) : i think the tickets will be popping out – just expensive.
@KSA Stormer © (Comment 15) : I think it will be full (remember plenty of people arrived late). and this weekend no soccer and trains.
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 17) :
It’s the way of the world now. Sad but true.
PS Do your figures add up to 36,500
….if not maybe you could get hold of one of those !
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 21) : After adding up you’re left with 3 200 tickets that were released to the general public this morning and were sold within minutes.
As Worcestershire Sauce writes he tried to get hold of some of these
Speking of which, Computicket must really invest some money on a system that can handle more than 25 enquiries at a time.
The General public being those who aren’t Stormers (1000 tickets) and those who aren’t Bulls (3000 tickets)
How do they split up the sales, are the Bulls / Stormers tickets only available through the Union, and how does one prove that you are a Bull / Stormer. (Without driving around with Blue Balls on your tow bar) Are those tickets available earlier, and then the last 3200 are released? What happens if the 5300 Saru tickets aren’t used, do they get rereleased?
@Gaff (Comment 24) : as far as I know – if you know somebody at the union they will sell it to you (at normal price unless they want to make some money of you) if they are not taking it up themselves. I think this is a pool for players and administrators families.
I would imagine it works the same with SARU people.
@rekinek (Comment 22) :
I’m not a maths major
@Gaff (Comment 24) :
Bulls fans are easy to see, dont ask me how but you can see them a mile off, all the rest must be Stormers fans.
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 17) : phone in to 94.2 jacaranda maybe they still have tickets left and then you still have a lift on the BLUE BUL BUS oh my and if a Stormer well they’ll hang you or tell you to become a BB fan but its up to you eeee
@Hertford Highlander (Comment 26) :
@stormy chaz (Comment 28) : just say goodbye to us in case
@rekinek (Comment 18) : yep, spoke to someone who also did the same thing. i just cant understand how they could, because BB Co said that u could not get near the stadium if you are not on a bus, but when we came there the cars were standing right next to the stadium…. unfair.
@rekinek (Comment 29) :
You keep me on my toes !
@rekinek (Comment 30) :
The ride home would be awesome if the Stomers managed a win.
@rekinek (Comment 30) : you going on the BUS oh my tell them i’ll FU!@ them up if they just touch you
@Worcestershire Sauce (Comment 33) : agree just look at it this way wear a STORMER jersey after the game and then get a ride home oh my they will be pi!t off don’t you think
@rekinek (Comment 30) : don’t tell me you are not going to wear a BB jersey are you
@stormy chaz (Comment 34) : no – I was thinking about WS
but thanx
– will tell them anyway.
will give it a miss this weekend and watch the game from the comforts of my couch
@rekinek (Comment 37) : ok me going camping again so will watch like last year with my sharks jersey on and not the bet that i took with me friends in the bar eee
WS is
@stormy chaz (Comment 38) :
in 2007, how many tickets went to all the bulls fans for that S14 final? if memroy serves e right, it was way more than 1000 tickets!!! this is a bit of a shame if the WP boys have so few tickets to hand out.
but thinking of it now, imagine all those bulls fans faces when habana scores a controversial try like he did in 2007. now that would be something fun to watch hahaha!!
as a die hard sharks fan, i would be happy to see stormers win! they deserve it this year
@richzed (Comment 40) :
They dont deserve it more than the Bulls though.
@Salmonoid (Comment 41) :
May the best team win!!
I think we’ve got the best defensive record BUT I think you are 100% correct.
They did finish top of the log!!
P.S. So what’s you’re saying is the Bulls didn’t deserve it in 2007??
@wpw (Comment 42) :
Precisely, and that is exactly why the Stormers can upset the apple cart……hmmmmm thinking of it, it would be a pretty satisfying seeing Habs scoring in the corner to get within 1 point and then Grant slotting the conversion with the hooter already gone.
Maybe I must rethink my allegiance for this weekend.
@Salmonoid (Comment 43) : You’ll get a headache if you think too much
@diablo (We’ll battle ALL on the beaches, We’ll battle All in Orlando) (Comment 44) :
Its already starting, theres a red mist starting to cloud my vision.
Deep breaths now…..
@Salmonoid (Comment 45) : Ohm…., Ohm…
