Only the second time ever that we have a all SA Super rugby final. The Bulls seem to be making a habit of this.
The Bulls have been here three times and have yet to lose one, fielding 9 players who are playing in their 3rd Super rugby final will go a long way to settling the nerves of the players who are doing this for the first time. The Stormers are here for the first time with only Habana having played in a Final before.
There will be a lot of key match-ups during this match, Habana v Van den Heever, Bekker v Matfield, De Jongh v Olivier, Liebenberg v Botha and the list goes on, BUT none as important as THE ONE key match-up that will determine the outcome of this game.
Peter Grant versus Morné Steyn.
In the Semi Finals Peter Grant scored 20 points to take the Stormers away from the Waratahs securing the final spot for the Stormers. Those 20 points took him into sixth position on the 2010 top scorers list. Morné Steyn went a little better and scored 24 points in his teams victory over the Crusaders and he leads the 2010 top scorers list rather convincingly. It must be said though that Peter Grant has not been the 1st choice goal kicker for the Stormers having played 2nd fiddle to Joe Pietersen before Pietersen went out injured.
The kicking boots of one of these two will determine the end result of this game.
Grant has scored 134 points – 1 try, 18 conversions, 31 penalties & 0 drop goals
Steyn has scored 243 points – 5 tries, 37 conversions, 45 penalties & 3 drop goals
Steyn’s score of 243 has taken him well past Dan Carter’s record of 221 for the most points scored in a season.
