Rumours that CJ van der Linde will be propping for the Stormers after the Currie Cup seem to be picking up some steam.
A blogger on this site recently made a comment about CJ’s immenent move to Cape Town but he was quickly corrected by wpw, myself and a few other posters as it was made public that van der Linde had just signed a contract for the Cheetahs and would be joining them for the upcoming Currie Cup season.
It appears that his contract with the Cheetahs is for the duration of the Currie Cup only and after that he will be taking up a Super rugby contract with the Cape franchise.According to a report on Keo.co.za vd Linde will be making a statement about the move within the next few weeks.
In my opini0n this is a decent signing as CJ can prop at both loosehead and tighthead but I really hope that The Stormers have not used up too big a chunk of their home semi final takings to get this signature.While CJ can play tighthead I really don’t think he does it very well.
It’s also reported that Jean De Villiers will indeed be returning to Cape Town but more on that as it develops.

The Stormers can have CJ, but Rudi for the love of goodness, firm up a contract with BJ. If the Sharks have lost the battle for JdV, its clearly time to look for good youth from the Sharks juniors, raid the free state junior ranks again, or take up some WP youth who will now see no future at their franchise. The Sharks need some personnel who will not be bailing off after the WC.
Grant would look great in a Sharks kit… a preverbial home-comming of sorts

I’m late in the game, but according to the Cape Times and an interview with Rassie… Grant has a contract till the end of next year, so he’s not going anywhere. Pietersen is in talks and looks ready to go at the end of the year this year.
CJ is 99% signed and he was relatively cryptic about Jean, but from the quote it seemed a done deal. I’ll look for the arti.

Why would Grant go before the end of the year anyway? The Australians don’t have a currie cup equivalent, and their coach is coaching the Lions for the CC, to be back in Perth for the Super15. So if Grant leaves, it will be at the end of contract. So how is his contract evidence that he won’t leave??
If he doesn’t get capped this year, then I’m sure he’s off!

Shame the Cheetahs are really losing out here.
a recent announcement by the Cheetahs that Springbok tighthead prop CJ van der Linde will play for them in the Currie Cup.
Unfortunately for the Cheetahs, Van der Linde may be one of the Boks the South African Rugby Union would like to see rested during the Currie Cup, but may well be available for a possible semifinal and final. After that he will depart for Cape Town and join up with the Stormers next year.
I hope they are only paying him per appearance.
