Springbok Sevens squad member Danwel Demas has been released by the Cheetahs to play for Italian side Viadana next season.
The Italian club paid the Cheetahs a transfer fee in order to have him released from his Currie Cup obligations, with Naka Drotské professing himself happy with what they got and saying a replacement had already been all but named.
“He’s (Demas) got a great opportunity overseas and we felt it would be good for his career if he used it,” said Drotské
Demas’s agent, BC du Plessis, confirmed the move and said the player would link up with his new team-mates on July 1. His initial contract runs for 10 months – one season for the team, which will be taking part in the Magners League as Aironi next season.
Jongi Nokwe is set to be fit for the Currie Cup campaign for the Cheetahs, while JW Jonker and George Whitehead can also be used on the wing.
