Lambie, Sithole puts Scots to the sword

The South African Under 20 side have put Scotland to the sword in emphatic style at the IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina. With fullback Patrick Lambie again leading the scoring, the Baby Boks rompted an 11-try, 73-0 victory.

In a completely one-sided affair, the Baby Boks lead by 40 points at half time, thanks to tries by winger Mwandile Mjekevu, flank Siya Kolisi (2), props Marcel van der Merwe and Brummer Badenhorst and flyhalf Elton Jantjes. Lambie succeeded with five of the six conversions, before going over himself for the opening try of the second half.

It was then the turn of Sharks under 19 winger Sibusiso Sithole, who crossed twice within six minutes, both efforts converted by Lambie. Having helped himself to a 21-point haul (to go with the 25 he managed against Tonga), the Sharks number 15 handed over the kicking duties to Jantjes as he was replaced by Nico Scheepers. The Lions flyhalf prodigy duly scored his second try of the night and converted it himself, but couldn’t repeat the feat when Sharks under 19 lock Kene Okafor trundled over for his team’s 11 touchdown in the 73rd minute.

The big win leaves the Baby Boks with a maximum 10 points after their first two games, but they will know that their first real test will come against Australia this weekend.

  • @JarsonX (Comment 3) : Oh well, his loss. We’re not exactly thin when it comes to the forwards.

We need to contract experienced backline players.

  • @JustPlainSHARK (Comment 7) : @robdylan (Comment 9) : Well we either need 2 senior established players to help the youngsters in the backline along, or a decent backline skills coach…..in ’07 we had both.

Unless we have another 5 Lambies hidden somewhere ;-)

  • I am a Queens Boy. Ja the headmaster(KES) used to teach at Queens married a GHS girl, who just happens to be Kanko’s moms sister. He probably has a good spy or two watching the East Cape. We definately have a proud record down that way, for producing great players just a pity there is nothing to keep them there!!

  • @Megatron (Comment 39) : I am an old man Dick Muir was a skunk, when I was in Martic. His Boet and I played First’s together. Went back to 150 and it has changed quite a bit, more the town that the school, I was impressed to see the traditions are still being upheld and the school is still looking amazing. Love the East Cape, I am from 1820 stock, so the family has huge ties down there.
