The South African Under 20 side have put Scotland to the sword in emphatic style at the IRB Junior World Championships in Argentina. With fullback Patrick Lambie again leading the scoring, the Baby Boks rompted an 11-try, 73-0 victory.
In a completely one-sided affair, the Baby Boks lead by 40 points at half time, thanks to tries by winger Mwandile Mjekevu, flank Siya Kolisi (2), props Marcel van der Merwe and Brummer Badenhorst and flyhalf Elton Jantjes. Lambie succeeded with five of the six conversions, before going over himself for the opening try of the second half.
It was then the turn of Sharks under 19 winger Sibusiso Sithole, who crossed twice within six minutes, both efforts converted by Lambie. Having helped himself to a 21-point haul (to go with the 25 he managed against Tonga), the Sharks number 15 handed over the kicking duties to Jantjes as he was replaced by Nico Scheepers. The Lions flyhalf prodigy duly scored his second try of the night and converted it himself, but couldn’t repeat the feat when Sharks under 19 lock Kene Okafor trundled over for his team’s 11 touchdown in the 73rd minute.
The big win leaves the Baby Boks with a maximum 10 points after their first two games, but they will know that their first real test will come against Australia this weekend.Tweet
