Heinrich Brussow has extended his Free State contract by another year, thus effectively ruling out a move to the Sharks in 2011 as has been mooted for some time.
There was apparently a big-money offer on the table from the Durbanites, but Brussow has now become just another in a growing line of established Boks to reject the overtures of Rudolf Straeuli. Both Jean de Villiers and Juan Smith have also turned down Sharks offers in the last few weeks, opting to sign with Western Province and Free State respectively.
Brussow states a desire for continuity heading into a World Cup year as his major motivation for staying in Bloemfontein, although the fact that he has only signed a one-year extension is a pretty good indication that he too plans to move on after 2011. Our information was that promising young fetcher Johann Wessels will also come onto the market at the end of 2010 and may well consider a move to the Sharks now that Brussow has decided to remain in Bloemfontein.
Further to these developments, Sharksworld is lead to believe that the Ebersohn brothers, Robert and Sias, are virtual certainties to move to Durban in 2011.Tweet
