The Sharks played against the Sharks under 21s in a final pre-Currie Cup warmup game this afternoon. No conversions were taken, making the final score somewhat academic, but the senior side scored 8 tries to the juniors’ two.

The Sharks tries were scored by Skholiwe Ndlovu and Riaan Swanepoel in the first half, with Justin Downey, Kyle Cooper, Keegan Daniel, Monty Dumond, Mark Richards and Lwazi Mvovo dotting down in the second half.

Richards, Mvovo and Keil were apparently the pick of the backs, while Pat Cilliers and Wiehahn Herbst were solid in the scrums.

  • Richards was great on attack but not convincing on defence. Swanepoel put in some big hits and Mvovo looked full of running.

  • Rudi Keil, now there is a player i rated. I felt he always got the short end of the straw by kevin putt. he was always thrown on when an under-performing halstead was injured. had he been given more game time and confidence from the coach i think he would have been one of the sharks best. i am pleased he is being given a chance again to shine. because if you look at the rest at centre he should be given the 12 jersey.
    adi-injured
swannie-i rated the guy, until i realised he is stuck in the 90′s with his “i can crash ball” technique. although he is defensively sound, it means nothing if the backline isn’t scoring.
stemmet-does he have what it takes? i haven’t heard any glittering reports so far.
stefan-the biggest waster of quality attacking ball in the universe. he is on a par with rooney’s world cup performance.
so i say give rudi a chance. i think the new interpretations will suit his game. and an interesting point to make is that when rudi came on the backline scored some tries. makes you think.

  • @robdylan (Comment 64) : not at all. i really liked the guy. i actually think the new law interpretations will suit his style. the old laws when he used to play suited the swannie/halstead mould of kopstamp. lets be honest though, can he be worse than our current options? maybe the same mediocrity, but definitely not worse. the warm up game did show a lot more backline movement when he came according to sharksrugby. but as i wasn’t there i cannot say, but i know the sharks need to find a decent centre soon.
