Sharks injuries blessing in Disguise?

As we all know the Sharks have a great number of our top performers currently out with injury. But is it all bad?

I think it might work in our favour considering that most will be back before halfway…i hope. The Sharks over the last few years have struggled to find replacements for players that need a break, therefore forcing them to continue or at least play about 20-25 minutes.

Players such as Deysel, Willem, Adi are somewhat irreplaceable in our squad. As we all know ball carrying looseforwards and Centre take more contact or collision contact than most other positions. Clearly these players need more time to recover as we have seen over the last year with Deysel, Willem and Adi when they were fit. As we saw during the super 14 Deysel and Alberts hardly trained towards the end of the tournament due to the punishment their bodies have taken. Being injured at least allows the muscles to rebuild and recover, which will be great for the legs come last 3 or so games of the season. Also giving Rhodes and hopefully Downey some game time will help our depth in the future. I am just hoping Adi also gets fit soon, because as we know his absence is not allowing for much development of any younger players. Stef can do a  job for the moment, but we really need to target some of our easier games to give guys like Arno van zyl and maybe even the very young Piet Lindeque time to develop into the role.

Our squad is very strong considering our injuries and Boks not currently involved. Come end of the CC we will have more than enough quality options in most positions, including the fact that fatigue\recovery time should not be such an issue as in The Super 14, especially with Deysel and Willem. I predict a good performance of Saturday and expect the team to improve game by game as players also return from injury to add more quality to the side. Go Sharksss, we know you will do the jersey justice, also wish all the guys on the injured list speedy recoveries in order to help get the Cup back to where it belongs.

Sharks Forever!!!!

  • Even with our injury worries we still have a squad that can take us to the top of the log, before the injured guys return. Can’t wait for The Bok and Shark victories on Saturday.

  • @JJR (Comment 2) : If and when they take is to the top, I hope they do not replace them with boks like last year…I knew it was a fatal mistake when I saw that…if it’s not broken, why fix it?

  • Since we probably would`ve lost our first 2 outings anyway maybe not having a full strength side available at the moment is a sort of blessing

  • am currently in livingin london  but at least the game against griquas is being screened live  sharks jeresy has been washed and looking all smart for the game on saturday! got a feeling that this year, will resemble 2008 but better in many ways!!

one added bonus is that we have not lost so many players to the boks this year, and that can only mean good thigns for us in a way that when they do return to the fold, there wont be mass changes!

  • Go Sharks!! The game against the Griquas in Kimberley last year was awesome! Pity the Sharks didn’t let them get a second bonus point :( Then we might of been in the final considering we wouldn’t of had to face the Cheetahs!!

  • Injuries are never a blessing… But I have faith in the Sharks depth, I do not have faith in player management quite yet… Our depth should be a blessing if managed well, professionally – fairly… We have a great assest in The Sharks academy… This is the year for a CC trophy… GO SHARKS!!!!
